Looking at booking a trip for June 2019 . Would you use this airline? Flying from New York to Bari Puglia and from Rome to Bari this is only option.
The ailing Italian airline Alitalia is about to be owned by the Italian train company group (Ferrovie dello Stato, the parent company of Trenitalia) and Delta Airlines, Inc., with possibly Easyjet buying some short haul business from it.
This is the latest on the Alitalia saga.
Don’t expect that the Italian Government will let Alitalia go bankrupt and close. Have you ever heard the saying “too big to fail”?
I have never had a problem. Prefer them over many others.
You will get varied replies here but we flew them JFK-FCO some 9 yrs ago and absolutely loathed the whole experience (cleanliness, service, food). They might’ve improved on all counts since then, but I prefer to book with alternate airlines. Just my two cents. Good luck!
As a business they might be hopeless, but as an airline to travel on they're not that bad (though I've never flown intercontinental on them, only local). Skytrax ranks them 3-star, which is just about adequate for long distance I suppose - that's the same rating as the main US airlines like American or Delta, but behind the British/European flag carriers like AF/KLM or BA and long behind Lufthansa. Rome/Bari must be so short a flight, I'm not sure I'd care anyway about comfort.
I flew Alitalia four times last October with no problems at all, including Rome to Bari. All flights were on time, luggage arrived in Bari, etc.
Oh, goodness this is a timely topic for me. I hesitantly booked tickets on this airline for my trip next April. They had the schedule which is the primary reason why I booked with them.
I hope I won't regret this........
I’ve flown Alitalia many times in the past and always had issues. 2 years ago, I said never again!
Six of us and an incredible amount of baby equipment flew roundtrip Rome to Brindisi last March without a problem. Just make sure you understand exactly what the ticket is buying or not buying, like seat selection and checked bags.
I've flown Alitalia twice. I had no problems with the airline, and I am glad I used them as they were my best option to reach my destination.
They do seem to be picky about carryon size, so make sure that your carryon is the right size for their airline.
They are partnered with Delta and we flew Alitalia home to Atlanta recently. The aircraft was fairly new and much nicer than our usual Delta. Food was good, had more legroom than Delta, and would be happy to fly with them again.
