The 4 of us with 3 luggages are staying at B&B3c( Castello) in Venice. I am going to take the alilaguna line blue from the airport to the San Zaccaria Jolanda stop and I am assuming I can take this aliaguna from the B&B to the train station when leaving. I am guessing that I can use the same means of transportation leaving Venice just not returning to the airport but the train station instead and should I buy a return ticket so its slightly cheaper. I think it would cost me 15x4 one way, round tickets would be cheaper I still have been thinking of doing the water taxi even though its more$$
I am thinking its much faster than the alilugana ride. Any advice
The Alilaguna goes between the airport and Venice, as well as to some other destinations not of use to most visitors. It is not intended for getting around Venice itself, and costs more than the vaporetto (which are like buses, except on water, and are the non-walking way to get around Venice). So, do not try to take the Alilaguna from your B&B to the train station, but use the vaporetto instead. Do you have Rick Steves Italy or Rick Steves Venice? Or, if not these, any other guidebook? They will have all the details on getting to and from the airport and train station, and taking the vaporetto and vaporetto passes (which are almost always a good deal). Yes, a water taxi from the airport is very expensive (over €100), but is faster than the Alilaguna (particularly since the Alilaguna goes once an hour, while the water taxi leaves whenever you're ready). Split among four people, it's something to consider.
I took the Alilaguna shuttle from the airport because it stops at Zattere in Dorsoduro, which was only a minute's walk to where I was staying, so it was exceptionally convenient. In fact, I chose my accommodations so I could do just that. I wanted to be away from Piazza San Marco and Dorsoduro was perfect. While waiting for the shuttle at the dock near the airport, I watched small groups of people in the line decide to join together to split the cost of a water taxi instead. I had booked the Alilaguna ticket in advance, so I just waited and stuck with my original plan, especially because I didn't think I could find 3-4 other people also going to Zattere. The Alilaguna shuttle was very packed full and it was really warm and uncomfortable inside the cabin for the ride across the lagoon. If you can afford to take a water taxi, it will probably be more comfortable and quicker. Next time I will try to.
I check with the B&B and they do say to take the Alilaguna line blue
from the airport. I did hear of it being hot and a long ride so the water taxi might be worth the splurge. Would it still take an hour or more to get to my stop?
Your B&B is very close to the San Marco stop of the Alilaguna Linea Blu (Blue Line). The timetable says 1 hr. 12 minutes from the airport to San Marco. http://www.alilaguna.it/en/linea-blu/blu-timetable The 'Venice Shuttle IN' shared water taxi service might work better for you. It operates the way the shared shuttle vans at U.S. airports work, where you book for your party and you might have to wait a bit if the water taxi pilot (driver) needs to wait for another party going to the same stop as you. But they carry far fewer passengers and probably make the trip more directly and certainly more comfortably. http://www.venicelink.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=000flypage_escursioni.tpl&product_id=54&category_id=10&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1&lang=english You'll need to copy/paste the above link to your browser. Also, be aware that it's a bit of a walk to the boat dock from inside the airport, but it's clearly signed. Arriving to Venice by water is a magnificent way to see the city for the first time.
The information on the "Location" page of your B&B is quite good and after it talks about the Alilaguna and the private taxi it talks about the two easy bus choices from the airport to Piazzale Roma where it is easy to board the Vaporetto to the dock near your B&B. The total trip won't take dramatically longer than the Alilaguna. The single tickets on the vaporetto are €7 a trip, easy to use passes bring that down quite a lot if you use the boats at least 3 times in 12 or 24 hours. It is not clear how long you will be there but after the 12 hour passes the passes are much less per hour the longer you have them.
thanks I will look into the shared shuttle but when I leave venice and now using the train to Rome should I just get a water taxi so I know I will be on time for my departure at the train station. I think we leave quite early in the morning from Venice
You can if you want to but it will cost you dearly. It sounded like saving money was important to you but if you want to spend lots of money you could take a water taxi to the train station. One way tickets on the vaporetto €7 per person. The taxi will be over €60. The number 1 all stops vaporetto is reliable and goes every 10 minutes during the day, and the "N" night boat goes frequently all night. I saw the suggestion to look at a tour book which goes into better detail about Venice than we can do here and I strongly agree with that suggestion. I would be really useful if you had that knowledge. Just how early is your early train time?
Actually its not that early 9:25 is the train time and the vaparetto sounds
really cheap to get there. thanks for the help
