Alessandro Schezzini Cicchetti crawl tour

I'm looking at booking both of his tours (the off the beaten path and pub crawl) when we are in Venice. For anyone who has done the cicchetti crawl, can you only get red wine, or also white? (I've viewed some videos on Youtube and everyone is drinking red wine on all of them.) And did you have dinner that night (so I could plan a reservation)? Thanks!

I've only been to one cicchetti bar, but it had a choice of red wine, white wine, a Spritz, or mineral water to drink. The videographers probably had everyone drinking red wine 'cause it's more photogenic.

I've been on both of these tours with Alessandro and they were such fun. I'm a red wine drinker and I have no memory whether white was also available, but Alessandro was quite responsive to my emails. I'm sure he could give you a quick answer.

Debbie, I echo Nancy's comments, word for word. I would send Alessandro an e-mail, and ask him if white wines are included or could be substituted at one or more of the stops. There was plenty of food served, so I don't think you need plans for dinner after, maybe a gelato or slice of pizza later in the evening, if you are hungry. I also took both tours, especially enjoyed the cicchetti crawl. For me, the Off the Beaten Track Tour was OK, but not special, I had been to Venice before, and had explored the particular area the tour covered, near Rialto Market as I remember.

White wasn't offered. Prosecco was offered at the last bar though.

Thanks, everyone! This is our first trip to Venice and only there 3 nights, so I believe we'll get a lot out of both his tours.

I took the tour Saturday night (yes, 3 nights ago), so all the details are fresh in my mind. It was last-minute for me, so I forgot to let Alessandro know about my dietary restrictions. He was able to make an adjustment for me on the spot - at each of the 3 stops. The 5 of us (Alessandro, a couple with their solo friend and me) shared a carafe of house red at the first stop, a bottle of red at the second and we each had a glass of prosecco at the third. It's worth asking if he could make an adjustment for you on the wine. At the end of the tour we all wanted to have dinner (our heads were swimming a little), so we headed to a restaurant Alessandro had recommended, Paradiso Perduto, in Cannareggio (near their hotel). The place was packed, but just a few doors down was another restaurant and we took a chance. Great service, great food, very reasonable price and they treated us to a glass of prosecco while we waited for them to set up our table. Sorry, don't know the name.

Thanks again, everyone, for your comments. I heard back from Alessandro and he said if I don't like the red, he can substitute white so I'll give that a try! I've booked both the tours for the day we arrive from Florence and think it will be a great way to start seeing some of Venice for our next 2 days. Hopefully we'll hit the minimum number of people for our day!

We will be in Venice late April and would love to do the Cicchetti tour with Alessandro, but I can't find how to contact him. I have seen some posts pointing to his website, but the site seems to be down. Could someone please let me know how I can book with him?

Also, as there are only 2 of us, will he just add us to the tour on the day we would like, if he has room? And can we do only the cicchetti tour without doing the walking tour beforehand? And... last question, I promise.... does the 30 euro per person fee include food, or is that what he charges for the tour and food and wine is extra?

Thanks

Try emailing him, he was very responsive to my questions: [email protected].

Yes, you can just do the cicchetti tour, my email says 35E each, including drinks and food. There has to be a minimum number of people, and he wrote me that he'll let me know when he has that. I'll also check back with him as our trip gets closer. Good luck - I'm really hoping there are enough people when we go as I'm really looking forward to it.

He had a website, www.schezzini.it, but I tried it and it is down. He may have retired, but here is the last phone number I have for him.

Yes, includes cost of cicchetti and wine at 3 different bars. The pre-tour walk is a separate tour with a separate charge he calls the "Off beat".

Alessandro has not retired, unless he's done so in the last few days. I was emailing with him 10 days ago to book his tours for May 20. His email, as noted above, is [email protected]

I was able to reach his website recently, but it does appear to be down now. I had been noticing that a Google search for him returned a result with Japanese or Chinese characters and a note that "this site may have been hacked." So perhaps it's down to deal with that problem. If so, that might also interfere with his email service. Hopefully, it's a temporary situation.

In any case, Alessandro responded to my emails within a day or two and we made arrangements with no problem. I'm very much looking forward to the tours.

I just emailed Alessandro this morning and got a prompt reply.
I'm hoping to do the cicchetti tour on either April 27 or 28.
So far for those dates there are only one or two people registered, so if any of you are there then, please sign up and let's make it a party!

We took his tour 3 weeks ago and we had a beer drinker....he substituted beer for him, no problem. We also had a vegetarian, and her snacks had no meat or fish. We had plenty to eat on the tour. It was tons of fun!

Everyone seems to love his tour. I have booked him for next Saturday night 22nd April, but so far we only have 6 people and we need 8 for the tour to run. Here's hoping he can get 2 more....
