Alberobello, guide suggestion,

We will be in ALberobello at the end of January. We would like a tour of 3-4 hours and are hoping to get some recommendations for guides. My husband is a little hard of hearing and does best with someone who's English is not heavily accented.

Also, I might be interested in buying a little trulli souvenir. Are there certain places to look, and do I need to worry about being sold a mass produced one.

Alberobello is very touristy so I imagine any trulli souvenirs would not be authentic.
We couldn’t wait to leave the crowds. I don’t know how I could spend 3-4 hours there. You won’t need that much time.

Hi Jules,

The company listed below is who I used to rent an ebike to go out in the countryside by myself in the afternoon for the enjoyment & also to photograph some trulli ruins, etc. They also have private tours, segway tours, tuk tuk tours, etc.

I was walking early the next morning in town, and the owner called out to me and was very friendly, asking if I had a good time in Alberobello, etc. He treated me like an old friend.

Are you planning to also go to nearby Locorotondo? Some of their private tours include both cities, and I would recommend that option. They are very close to each other, yet very different styles. I know it’s common on the forum to hear recommendations to avoid Alberobello or only stop for an hour. But, I stayed overnight in both of these small cities and will be staying in both of them again next May.

There’s no shortage of souvenir shops in Alberobello! A lot of them are things you probably don’t want, but I did see a couple of artisan shops. They’re mostly in one section of the town; they will be easy to find.

Several people have told me that they really loved Alberobello and just need to get off the tourist path a bit. We will be staying 3 nights. I figure that, in terms of crowds, January should be fairly light, though we will be there a Thursday thru Saturday. I was planning to venture into some of the neighboring towns.

Thank you Suki for your thoughts and Jean for your recommendation.

OP keep posting where I've just been (Nov-Early Dec). 3-4 hours is more than enough for Alberobello and would not stay there overnight. Many more delightful towns in the area rather than the most touristy one in the region.

All the items are the same, same, same. I can't think of one shop that was original, one of a kind by the artist shop. Maybe when you go it might be different.

My itinerary is set. I did look at neighboring towns to stay and couldn't come up with anything in terms of a place to stay. We are excited to stay in Alberobello. We are thinking that likely, it will be less busy in January. If it turns out that we've depleted everything of interest, we'll have a car. I already have a list of cities we hope to visit from Alberobello or the other towns that we stay in.

Jules, I stayed at Le Alcove Luxury Hotel nei Trulli in Alberobello, and I remember a few of the other guests staying there had cars and were able to park on that street….just in case you’re looking for a nice place with close access for your car. It’s close to the main, little piazza.

There’s a little seaside town called Torre Canne, maybe 30 minutes from Alberobello. It has a beautiful, scenic restaurant overlooking the sea that would be a perfect place for lunch if you’re out exploring.

When we were there in 2012, we saw a large group of well-dressed people with sunglasses & big hats — found out the next day these were guests from Justin Timberlake’s wedding just down the road — and included Elton John & Lady Gaga!

Not a trulli specific souvenir, but of the region: In Cisternino, there was a nice little art studio where we picked up a print of an olive tree. It's tiny, so if you go there, you'll pass it!
