Albergo Milano - Varenna

For all those who have stayed here in the past.....

The difference in price between a front balcony and a front verandah is only 10 euros per night. If it were you, would you pay the extra for the verandah?

We have only stayed in the annex (Casa Rossa), but if we were in the main hotel my answer would definitely be "Yes."

If you look at the photos, the terrace is much larger than the balcony, which is only wide enough for a small metal chair.

It is really nice to be able to sit comfortably out there and enjoy the view ( maybe with a glass of wine before dinner?)

Judy,

I agree with Lola, the answer is "yes!"

We also stayed in one of the annex (Casa Gialla), but enjoyed our breakfast every morning at the hotel's terrace!

Enjoy the fabulous view of the lake!

I would say No. But If you think you will use the extra space then go for. If you won't use the extra space then don't. 2-3 days is 20-30 euro extra which I would rather spend on wine. I had the balcony room with just a small metal chair and table which was sufficient for us. We still sat outside and enjoyed the view with a bottle of wine one night.

I am not trying to detract from original poster's questions....but I am also looking at this hotel (Casa Rosa) for next year. Is air conditioning in September not needed in the Lake Como area? Very few, if any, list this as included in the accomodations. Are mosquitoes an issue if shutters are left open at night? Thank you!

Jill--we had the top floor room in Casa Rossa at the end of June. It was quite warm at that time but we did jot miss the A/C. We actually left the door to the terrace open at night to let the breeze in and had no mosquitoes. (My husband is very sensitive so we would have noticed them). The room itself is quite large and has a kitchen area that would serve well if one wanted to cook---but we enjoyed the food at the hotel restaurant so much we never did cook. The terrace/balcony is large but has a solid wall rather than a railing. Fortunately the table is "bar height" rather than standard table height, so I could see over the wall when seated. But there really isn't much view out over the lake from the room itself---you have to go out on the balcony.

Yes, the views of the Lake are breath taking. Any hotel on the lake I would request a view room.

Judy, we were in the main hotel and yes it was worth it. Space to sit and enjoy the view, and entertain if you want to. It was a great place to relax at the end of a long day. The rooms were rather small, so this was great extra living space.
