Albergo Marin in Venice.

We will be taking a cruise out of Venice next June of 09 and I booked one night before the cruise at the Marin. Has anyone stayed here and were you pleased? Also did you take a cruise and use this as a place to stay before or after and was it easy to get to the cruise docks? We will be taking the Royal Caribbean, Splendour of the Seas. Thanks for your reply.

Personally I would NEVER book a room in Venice from May - September that did not have Air Conditioning. The Albergo Marin does not have it. Venice can get quite hot and sticky humid. There can also be issues with mosquitoes at night if you try to leave your window open (since you don't have AC). AC also allows you to close the windows and keep outside noises at a minimum.

It's a very basic hotel near the train station, Piazzale Roma and relatively close to the cruise docks. I believe it's had some renovation so that there are few rooms without ensuite bathrooms. It was perfectly satisfactory for us, but it was very much a one-star hotel.

Thanks Doug for your reply. We got a triple for 150 euros, so I knew it wouldn't be top of the line. I was just wanted to be assured that it was clean and close to the cruise docks or at least easy to get to.

Sharon - easy to get to - yes. Clean? I'd say Motel 6 clean. If Rick Steves still lists it, I wouldn't worry. 150 Euro for a triple there? Yikes! We stayed in a double in 2003 for 45 Euro. But the economy has changed, And June is the high season.

Another suggestion for a budget hotel - which we stayed at last year and found cleaner and more friendly - is the Hotel Santa Lucia. It has a website you can Google. It's on the other side of the train station but the additional distance from the cruise port is hardly worth considering.

That's where we're staying in June 2009 AND it has air-conditioning.

Tim - Just to be clear - You're staying at the Santa Lucia in June? Yes. It has air conditioning. And I highly recommend taking your morning cappucino at the bar along the Calle Misercordia about halfway between the Santa Lucia and the Lista de Spagna. I think it's called the Bar Cichetti.

Another reason I like the Santa Lucia is that, although just off the Lista de Spagna, it's part of a real neighborhood. And there's a park just behind it.

Yes, Hotel Santa Lucia is where I'm staying, and I always verify AC for Venice in the summertime.

I did try to get a reservation at the Santa Lucia a couple of months ago but they said they weren't taking reservations til November of this year. After hearing from you Doug how you liked it I thought I would try again. Wouldn't you know it, they have a group booked for the night we needed. So I guess I will stick with the Marin unless someone knows of a reasonable B&B in that area.(near cruise docks) Thanks for your replys!
