albergo doni, venice, question

Has anyone stayed at Albergo Doni, Venice? I'm wondering if there are many stairs to the rooms and whether the rooms have fans. I'm fine with a flight (or may two?) of stairs, but can't see dragging my luggage up more than that. (chronic hand/arm injury) Can't figure that out from the website and haven't heard back to my query of the hotel. Can you help me? Thanks

Sherry, I agree that it's a good idea to read the Trip Advisor reviews, but it should be noted that there are many positive comments also. They provide somewhat "budget" accommodations in a convenient area for access to Piazza San Marco and a Vaporetto stop, so be sure to consider it on that basis as well. Cheers!

Sherry, Yes, I've stayed at Albergo Doni but not for a few years. There are stairs from ground level up to the rooms, but as I recall it was only one flight to each floor. I can't remember if the rooms had fans, but it wasn't that hot the last time I was there. I might have a photo of the room but I'd have to dig through my files. Happy travels!

You might read through the 201 reviews on TripAdvisor. One from last month says: " This place is so tired, and in mid summer extremely hot and uncomfortable." Another one complains about the bathrooms being on a different floor.

Sherry, I stayed at a monastery on the north side of the island, simple room with bath, no stairs, lovely helpful sisters and a layperson manager fluent in several languages. No a/c, but a fan and most rooms overlook a lovely garden. It was a nice break from the hectic summer crowds, but close enough to a vaporetto stop that I could be at the Rialto (or anywhere else) in a few minutes. I found them at monasterystays.com.

Hi, I stayed at Albergo Doni 3 years ago at the beginning of June. They only have stairs. Our room was three flights up so a little bit of a climb. We had a vanity and sink in our room and the bathroom was down the hall. I believe there was a small fan in the room but I can't remember for sure. The location and price made up for these small inconveniences.
