While I love the referenced magazine, I was taken a little aback by this article: http://www.budgettravel.com/bt-dyn/content/article/2008/05/26/AR2008052600962.html Initially I was pleased that people are making rooms in small overlooked towns available, but then I wondered how this is any different than a room-to-let office like Edi's Apartments in Riomaggiore? Even more horrified by the price (starting at $252/night) and now wondering what others are seeing in towns? Are prices in otherwise small out of the way towns (or even in the way towns) really climbing out of the $50 to $100 dollar range? Is this a positive trend? A step toward or away from getting in touch with a more intimate Italy?
