Alba -- inexpensive air/train route on grad student budget?

Hi ,

Looking for advice on how to get to Alba cheaply.
Fly into Milan direct from San Francisco US and train to Alba?

Or fly into a different city in Europe and go to Genova or Torino? then train to Alba.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

You'll have to compare fares for flying to all the major european cities. I often find great fares to London, then from there you could book a ryan air flight to the nearest italian airport.

If taking a train, look for the train categotized "treno regionale" instead of intercity or eurostar. It will take much longer, but costs a lot less.
