Airport transfers - Rome - Fiumicino

I'm looking for a transfer from Fiumicino airport to my hotel in Rome. I'm getting in pretty late (9pm), and never having been in the city before, am looking for alternatives to the trains. Most airport transfers offered by the hotels are in the 40 Euro range.

I found the following service online offering the transfer for 17.9 Euro. Great price, but I can't seem to find any other info on them, so I'm a little skeptical. Anyone had any experience? Other services?

Bryan,

I have used these folks a few times... but I think the least I paid was 30E (tip & all included). At that rate it was a shared ride into town, with 2 other couples. We went to their hotels as I was furthest away.

I also did a 5:00 AM pick up and, like you will have to after 9 PM, I did pay a surcharge ( I think my all-in was close to 45E.) Send them an email and verify the price as mine was in December, and not in season..

From a service perspective, they were great: timely, professional although my drivers did not speak English well. There is a representative that met me each time and directed me to the proper van. She spoke excellent English! Their pickup for the return trip was waiting for me at 5 AM, a huge relief when you're staying "out in the sticks, and not downtown!"

Ciao,
Ron

A taxi from the airport to anywhere in downtown Rome is 40 Euro by law....look for the official white taxis outside the airport in the cab rank, and ignore anyone approaching you offering you a "deal."

A number of other posts suggest various shuttle services, and many people give a tip. What's the rule of thumb on tipping for a shuttle / taxi service?
