Sounds like he is giving you several options: he can wait for you at the San Zaccaria vaporetto stop (a longer ride with less walking), at the Hospital stop (shorter total travel time, but some more walking), or in front of the Hotel Danieli. The first two options involve taking the Alilaguna boat from VCE - probably more expensive than the bus to Piazzale Roma + vaporetto in option #3.

Which one works best for you? What's more important - ease of journey, travel time, or cost? Option #1 is probably easiest, maybe longest and most expensive. Option #3 is probably cheapest and longest.

Getting back as you leave Venice to Santa Lucia train station (to get to Florence) is probably easiest by vaporetto boat #1 or #2. The vaporetto stop is right in front of the train station.

Your host has given you a lot of options and you just need to decide upon which one. Just be sure when you decide, to stick to the plan, because apparently, your host will meet you at the dock and needs to know which one.

You do not need to buy tickets from the airport to Venice now, just get it when you arrive and have your luggage. I suggest you take the bus and vaporetto and tell your host to meet you at San Zaccario "Danieli". This is more convenient and scenic than the Alilaguna boat. Cost is 14 EUR for a combined bus and boat ticket. You can buy it at the ACTV desk in the airport. Outside the airport, you will see the No 5 bus to Piazzale Roma. Scan you ticket on the bus, it will drop you at the bus "station" in Venice. Get off and go to the vaporetto dock and find the dock for the No 1 boat direction Lido. Scan your pass again and walk onto the dock and board the next boat. You will go right down the Grand Canal and see Venice in all its grandeur, making a lot of stops along the way. Once you pass Piazza San Marco (can't miss it), you get off at the next stop, San Zaccaria "Danieli". You'll see the Hotel Danieli is very conspicuous.

I suggest to text your host when you land, and again when you board the No 1 vaporetto. They will then know exactly what time to meet you.

Take the No 1 vaporetto back to the train station. If you don't have a pass, tickets are 7.50 EUR and there are machines at the docks, and I believe ticket windows there as well. The only thing you should buy in advance is train tickets to Florence to save money. Pick a convenient time with a good price (usually after 10 am).

I'd buy the the Alilaguna Blu ticket. You can get off 45 min later at Ospedale (hospital) and walk 20 min with the apt guy...or stay on it for another 40 minutes as it winds it way around to Lido and back to San Zaccaria. Cost is the same no matter where you get off. If you'll have a lot of bags and don't want to walk, stay on all the way to San Zaccaria. Me? I pack pretty light and would probably choose Ospedale and the walk and get to the apartment a few minutes sooner.

(Just tell him which one you choose so he knows which stop to meet you at!)

Rather amazing that your host will meet at the aliguna/vaporetto stop. We never experienced that type of service whenever we visited Venice.

I did the Alilaguna Blue Line when I went 2 years ago. Easy enough. That is the 14 Euro option on the page you posted. You exit the airport and follow the signs down to the dock. At the dock they will tell you which line is the Blue line. Text your host as you get on the boat so he will have an idea of when you will arrive. Have a great trip. You will love Venice.

I guess I assumed it was routine for an apartment in Venice. I stayed at an apartment there a couple of times (not an especially expensive one) - on my first two visits to Venice - and was met at the train station by the apartment owner both times.
