Airport to Venice

We are landing in Venice on 10-2-2018 coming from Seville. I wanted to know if we should book this ?
It seems difficult to go from airport to the actual hotel which is situated in Calle Sacrestia in Venice 30122
What do you think?

Did you ask the hotel for their suggestion/recommendation?

Does the hotel website have a "how to get here" section?

If that is just a transfer from airport to hotel -- it is a bit high. There are cheaper options. That is water taxi prices.

IF this is a water taxi it is a reasonable rate. 4 pax plus luggage and dropped as close to your hotel/lodging as the water system allows. Water taxi is a great way to do this, you get to see the city in a way most people don't and much less hassle than a bus.

Rio di San Provoio is close.

There are basically 3 ways to get from the airport to your hotel. The 1st is a water taxi and it is the most expensive. Probably 125 Euros for the boat. I understand there is now a shared water taxi, but I'm not familiar with the details.

The 2nd and next least expensive is the Alilaguna boat. It will cost about 20 Euros per person. It takes longer, you do have to "check" you baggage so you don't have control of it the entire time, and you probably will not be able to get a "non stop" line to the area of your hotel.

The 3rd and least expensive is a combination bus and vaporetto (vap.). It takes a bit longer, but that is what we do because we travel very light with just one carry on apiece. There are two bus lines that serve the airport. One is ATVO and is NOT affiliated with the vap. system. The other is ACTV and IS affiliated with the vap. system. At the airport you can get a vap. pass for various periods from 24 to 72 (or more?) hours. You can have a one way or two way bus fare added to the vap. pass. There is a good site maintained by the ACTV system that has current prices and etc.. Don't remember the url so just Google it.

If you decide on option # 3, take the # 5 ACTC bus from the airport to Piazzale Roma. Be sure and validate the vap. pass on the bus. Do not wait until you get on the vap. Also, validate the pass each time you use the vap. Then take to the vap. to the stop closest to your hotel. The # 1 vap. is the slow boat as it stops at every stop and the # 2 is faster as it only stops at selected stops. We've done option # 3 many times. Easy Peasy and cheap to boot.

There is a site called veniceforvisitors.com that has a lot of good info. that you might want to check out.

Calle Sacrestia is not a very far walk from San Zaccaria vaporetto stop. The easy, mid-priced option with service to that stop is Alilaguna Blue Line for about 15 euros per person, 1.5 hours. Or their seasonal Red Line goes to the San Marco vaporetto stop; see on Google Maps or in your guidebook.

A private water taxi for up to 4 people costs 110 euros. That may be what Viator would be booking for you, but you could also book it directly at https://www.motoscafivenezia.it/en/.

hey martica
if you're doing a water taxi you can get a cheaper one at motoscafivenezia.it for like 110E, if that's the way you want and faster. to me it's worth it with 4 of you (including 2 kids) and luggage. your place seems to be close to san marco area. after you're settled in you can explore and ask for a map and getting around. otherwise a vaporetto is cheaper; you, luggage, kids and hopefully seats and room, and a much longer time getting there with zigging and zagging thru alleyways (calles), dead ends, an adventure. ask hotel/owner for directions. also another good site is europeforvisitors.com/venice
have a fun vacation

The subject has been well covered. I just hope your group is traveling light, and that they can handle their own luggage. Venice is one of those places that's difficult for the mobility challenged.
After 8 trips there, I never tire of the place. It's best the days the cruise ships are not in town, however.

I think we will do the water taxi. Travelling all over for 26 days I am going to try to make it as easy as possible.! We are however travelling light.. 3 20' carry ons and 2 backpacks all thanks to the good advice of all good people on this site! (If you saw what I originally was going to carry you would laugh, just imagine 4 suitcases over 40' each and 4 rotating wheels on each)

I also wanted to ask is it better to buy gondola tickets now or once we are there.. I have been checking viator but for us 4 they are around 200.00!! Seems like a lot for .30 minutes :(

Hey martica
lol about the luggage, my first trip I packed an outfit for everyday of a 22 day trip. Never again. You’ll be happy with water taxi, kids will love it. Buy your passes there, some may say different. Lots of stress is leaving you with all the research and planning coming to an end. go with the flow and enjoy.

LOL so funny I did that 3 years ago and my husband has bad back and bad shoulders (football at UF and rowing at UM) he is a walking arthritis poor thing... So I had to carry everything and after one week my back was killing me! This time around I listened and understood the reasoning.. I also bought those packing little bags and they are amazing.. I got to fit it all in those 3 20 inchers!
We have a son with Autism so this way he wont have to carry anything.. the bookbags are for me and hubby so Im hoping it will be ok! Im so excited its finally a couple days away! TY for all responding!

The standard rate fora gondola is 80 euro for 30 minutes; the 80 euro is for the gondola, not per person.
There are gondolas all over Venice so there is no need to book. You will be invited to take a gondola ride multiple times per day as you walk around.
