Hello, first let me thank everyone in advance for their very useful tips. Can someone please tell me the best way/options available to get from the airport in Rome (FCO)to a hotel that is near the Colosseum? We will be arriving around 9:00 AM.
Assuming two, probably a taxi from the airport. The rate is fixed at 40 Euro. The train (Leonard Express) to Termini would be 22 E plus the cab ride to the Colosseum area - at least another 10 E. A pre arranged shuttle would be another option but I have never done that so cannot comment on how that works. We have taken a shuttle to the airport for 30 E but never from the airport. One of the reasons we always stay in the Termini area is to avoid the taxi from Termini.
Thanks for the information. It looks like we'll be cabbin' it.
BE sure to take an offical taxi from the starter and not someone who offers you a deal.
Have your hotel arrange for a car to pick you up at the airport (still 40 Euro). The driver will wait outside the baggage claim (with about a hundred others) holding a sign with your name on it. Having a pre-arranged ride will eliminate the need to find your own ride and lessen the chance of your driver getting lost.
You transportation options depend on what's important to you. If you pack light and are on a tight budget I would take the Leonardo Express. From there it is a short metro ride to the colosseum. If you are packing a lot of bags and/or would prefer to quickly get to your hotel have them arrange a shuttle or take a cab. If you are taking the cab make sure you are clear on the price before you get in. The price is 40 euro.
