Airport Taxi Florence

Four of us arriving by plane are considering taking taxi to our rental apartment. The apartment is located 2 blocks from the the Duomo. Will the taxi take us directly to the apartment? We will have luggage for 4. Will we need two taxis or are there larger (van type) taxis as in most US cities. Any advice is welcome.

It should take you to your apartment. We took a taxi from the airport to the Hilton hotel and we took a taxi from Fiesole. In both cases, the taxi took us to where we wanted. As for larger taxis, I can't recall. The fare to where you are going should be about 20E-25E. Note that they will charge extra for luggage.

I was wondering the same thing. I read somewhere that the taxi's from the airport in Florence only go to the train station. Did anyone else have that problem or did the taxi's take everyone to their hotel or apartment?

We took a taxi fron the train station to our apartment in the Oltrano section of Florence and when we left called a taxi and they came to visit us. Find out if the apartment is between the Doumo and the train station. If it is, it's walking distance with rolling bags. You can look up the taxi company on the internet. Go to this site:

It has great information about the taxi service there.

Been there, done that already. Thanks for all the advice prior to our trip.

Airport taxis took us to the specific address in the no drive zone. We also called for an early morning (5:30) pick up with no problem.

I have driven thousands of miles on European roads but still found driving in Italy to be very frustrating. The motor scooters are a nuisence but no more that.

The big problem is the lack of lack of consistency to ther road signage. Your see and follow a sign to a specific city or attraction. As you continue on this route you expect to see similar signs at each turn or round-about but the signs suddenly disappear. You are left on your on on how to reach your final destination. We had eight experienced eyes seardching for the expected. This happened more often than not. Have fun and leave plenty of time for misdirection.

I chose not to spend the money for European software on my GPS. Mistake! I should have spent the dollars and missed the aggravation. Even getting to an airport can be daunting and possibly costly if you miss your turn.

I vote with the above...last two trips would have been so much easier with GPS...last September we could have waited for a GPS car in Milan (would have been an extra hour or more)..instead we elected to go with the car they had available...next trip we will definitely be packing a portable GPS (either Garmin or Tomtom...both have good European software updates available)
