Airport Strike September 6th

Hello friends,

My good friend is traveling to Italy for the first time, landing in Florence on September 6th. She is flying United. We just learned about the upcoming airline strikes that day. It seems like the strikes will primarily affect European airlines - but any tips/advice? Or just general expectations to prepare for? Thanks everyone!

The general window I saw for the non specific European airlines was starting at noon on the 6th for I believe 4 hours. I arrive before that on American so I am hopeful.

Any idea on how long the strike and related disruption is expected to be? Is this a limited-time, predictable (even routine) event, or more of an "anything goes, who knows how long" event?

(I'll be there starting 16 September - will it be only a faint memory when I get there, or an ongoing crisis?)

it might go on for 5 min after (if someone's watch isn't correct), but THIS strike won't last until the 16th......the scioperi are very organized and limited to particular times and places.....

expectations to prepare for......if you are speaking of airlines that might be running flights within Italy, the longer distance trains might sell out quicker.....

Below is detailed information regarding September 6th planned Italian air strike. Flights from US should be able to land as priority is given to intercontinental flights, however, there may be significant delays in getting their luggage. If their arrival time is within the 12-4 timeframe, they may want to consider carry-on only. This may not be practical so at a minimum, be sure to have necessary items in carry-ons. It could be a mess.

Confirmed dates for the air travel strike
According to the official calendar from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the following dates are confirmed for industrial action affecting the aviation sector in September 2025:

6th September: a national strike involving both airport ground staff and airline flight crews.
A 24-hour walkout by EasyJet flight crew will affect flights to and from Catania.
A 24-hour walkout by Swissport Italia staff at Milan Linate airport will affect flights to and from Catania.
A further four-hour stoppage from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM involving wider transport staff.

Traveling to Rome International Airport with arrival on September 8th at 7 a.m. Hope luggage crew will be up and running. What is the best website to check strike info and luggage delays. Cannot just do a carry on as I am doing an 11 day cruise. Any suggestions.

that is 2 days after the strike, you will be fine unless they announce another one on the 8th, but that is cutting it close to announce by now....

as for websites, this is one that is very far reaching of what it encompasses, I think it's the official one?

I don't know if there is a website to track luggage delays in airports...

But, I believe in you for a carry on, you can always do laundry if you pack light! :)

I'm flying out of FCO on a United flight to SFO on Sept 6th, departure time 3:40pm, so we'd be checking our bags and going through security during this 12pm-4pm window.

What should we expect to happen? We haven't received any notification from United yet.

We are flying Delta into Venice from Atlanta on Sept 9 ... any idea of impacts from the strike during this time? Where is best way to keep up on the status of the strike?

Barbara, this strike is for the Sept 6th strike, have you heard of another one for the 9th?

The link I shared above is the official site for all the strikes

This Strike is not listed in my United flight under Travel Alerts. I am arriving in Rome on Saturday afternoon, September 6, at 1:00 pm. Has this Strike been confirmed? Shall I plan on using Carry-on only?

conleydanamarie53 did you hear anything from United about your 1pm arriving flight on Sept 6?

I didn't hear anything yet about my 3:40pm departing flight from FCO.

The publication “Wanted in Rome” states the strike will be tomorrow from 12:00 until 16:00 ( 4 hours). Enac, the Italian aviation civil authority, says flights from 7:00 until 10:00 and from 18:00 through 21:00 are guaranteed to operate.

It’s ambiguous, but— hey— this is Italy!

For reference, I got to FCO at 1pm and nothing seemed different or shut down.
