Airport shuttle service from Rome (FCO) to Hotel Aureliano

Me and my girlfriend were trying to find a "cheap" shared ride shuttle service from FCO to our hotel (Aureliano). We were thinking we would find a similiar rate to what we used in Spain several months ago (27 euro for two people with one suitace each and one carry on bag each). It looks like the "cheapest" rate for a shared ride shuttle service is around 50 euro for the both of us.(airportshuttle.it). Another site I came across listed rates for 44 Euro for two people (with no mention for extra $$$ for baggage). Does anyone have a recommendation for a reasonable cost shared ride shuttle service? We would have 2 suitcases total and two carry one bags total. We don't want to mess around with public transportation as soon as we arrive...been there, done that, it's not something I want to go through in an unfamiliar city, especially after a long flight. Thanks.

Assuming your hotel is within the inner ring of Rome (old city) the taxi is fixed at 40E for up to 4 people. If the hotel is near Termini then the train would be 28E for two and walk from there. The sitbus is 8E/person to Termini. AND the local train to Trastevere is 8E (I think). Take a cab from there or Termini. If you don't want to use public transit, then don't complain about not being cheap. Follow up: Just found the hotel. Ignore all of the above posting. It is in an odd location. Why did you chose that hotel? It is not very centrally located. And it is outside the wall so have no idea what the taxi rate would be. Ask the hotel for a shuttle recommendation.

I'd agree with Frank's "follow-up" advice. This hotel is VERY far from downtown, and also NOT NEAR any metro connections. The good news is that a taxi will be less expensive (less than €40) as you're closer to the airport. But unfortunately, every trip ANYWHERE from this hotel will require a couple of bus changes.... or more taxi rides. So in the long run, any savings from staying out here will be impacted by the time and money it will take to get into town. Looking at the bus signage about a block away, it appears that this section of road is serviced by only two buses - so expect some LONG waits, especially on Sundays. Viator offers a shared shuttle service starting at about $26 a person, but you could probably equal or beat that rate just by taking a taxi from the airport. I'd imagine a taxi would be about €30 to this location. I surely would not attempt public transportation due to the hotel's location... And I suppose I'd recommend finding accommodations more convenient to Rome.

Ron, thanks for supporting me. I looked at the map and could not believe how far it was from the Vatican so thought that I was not reading the map correctly. Mike - go to google earth or one of the other mapping sites and follow the streets to old Rome to see how far you are from everything.

Thanks. This hotel is non-refundable so I can't change anything. This trip was booked as a package deal back (Rome and Venice) in January, for May 3 to the 12th.....on the plus side, we got a cheap price for the Hotel Dona Palace in Venice for less than if we booked it on our own,and that is right in the city center of Venice. Looking on Google Map, the hotel is not far from Vatican City. Why are you saying it's really far? We don't mind taking public transportation to see the Vatican and the Colosseum. We just don't want to take public transportation from the airport to our hotel. Anyway, I found this website and will look into more for reviews/feedback....16 euro per person. http://rome.shuttle-airport.com/

When I checked goggle map it was about 2.5 miles to Vatican City and over 6 miles to the Colosseum. I guess it is how you define distance and convenience.

Why do we say it's far out? Mike, I traveled to the Cornelia metro area quite often as our landlords lived over there and we visited them each month to pay our rent - in cash! So I know the area quite well. The closest bus stop to your hotel is the Aurelia/Da Rosate stop. The only buses that appear to stop there are the 246 and 247. You get on the 247 and it's about 16 stops from your hotel to the last stop, which is the Cipro Metro. You could walk to the Vatican Museums entrance from there - or connect to the another bus, the 492, to get downtown. The last stop of the 246 is the Cornelia metro. The Cornelia metro is the next-to-last stop on the A line metro. Walking, Google map says it's a little more than 1,100 meters to the entrance of the Cornelia metro... So because of the necessary bus/metro connections - or the roughly 2/3 mile walk to the Cornelia station - I'd say it's not the most convenient option. But since you're locked in... I'd go to ATAC and get familiar with your bus options.

When we arrived at the airport, I went to ask someone about how to get tix for the subway - it was one of the 'booths' around the terminal/subway area - and they told us they did right to your hotel drop-off - the price was only slightly more then the subway, but soooo much easier then trying to figure out how to get to where we were going after finding the subway stop. Totally unexpected, and we were glad we did it (this was 2008, so memory is little fuzzy)...there seemed to actually be a few to choose from...we waited I think about 15-20 min, then off we went for a crazy introduction to Roman drivers!

In September 2010 we did something similar to what Nicole did. A woman approached us and said she could drive us to our hotel for only a couple of euro more than if we took the train to Termini, and we still would have had to walk or take the metro to our hotel on Via Cavour. We had to wait about 15 minutes while she rounded up enough people to fill her van, then off we went. She pointed things out along the way, and dropped us in front of our hotel.

The is no subway at the airport. The Leonard Express is a non-stop surface train and the ticket booth for the train is right in front of the entrance to the train waiting area. The signage for the train is very good.

To follow up on this, well I'm here at my hotel and the walk to the Cornelia station is only 15 minutes......not a big deal. The train ride to the major metro stops for the "must see when in Rome" items of interest is not that long of a ride. My flight into FCO was delayed so my pre-arranged airport shuttle was not there to meet me after going through baggage claim. I initially could not get a hold of them on the phone so I thought I would inquire about a taxi service from FCO to my hotel. I did not get a straight answer from ANY of the taxis, official or otherwise....I got a lot of " 40, maybe 50 euro, very cheap"...so with that I tried again to contact my airport shuttle service and was able to get a hold of them and they came to come get me. I paid $43 for two people with two suitcases. A much better bargain than trying to deal with the taxis or deal with taking the train to Termini than hopping on the metro to Cornelia or dealing with taxis. I would not recommend, if you have checked luggage, to utilize the metro system if you plan to do so if you are taking the train from FCO to Termini and want to metro in closest to your final destination. The people that I see over the past 3 days now on the metro with baggage, going to and from Termini, are weighed down with fighting the crowds on the metro to get their baggage on and off the metro.

Mike, When arriving in Rome with checked luggage, I usually take the Leonardo Express from the airport to Termini and then often a Taxi to my Hotel. That method has worked reasonably well for me so far. Enjoy your trip to Rome!
