Airport Shuttle?

Apologies in advance if this is a silly question, but do any hotels in Florence offer airport shuttles? We have a 7AM flight, and I'm a bit concerned with our options of how to get to the airport at such an early time.

I know taxis are an option - can you reserve them in advance? Would a hotel help with that? Are there other "shuttle" options available? We're willing to pay, just want something that's reliable and sure to be there on time.

Also, should we look into staying somewhere near the airport, or would we be ok to stay in the city?

Thank you in advance for your help, I've struggled to find details on this!

For peace of mind I would opt to stay close to the airport the night before your flight. That way you eliminate a lot of moving parts and variables that could cause stress....

It is a very short drive from the old part of the city to the airport, especially early in the morning.

The Florence airport is only 20 minutes from the town center, so there's no need to stay near the airport. Ask your hotel or host to help you reserve a taxi to the airport, and make the reservation the day before your flight. The airport opens at 5am, although you won't need to be there quite that early for an intra-Europe flight.

Edit: If you'll have a cell phone with an international plan, you can also call and reserve the taxi yourself. I'm sure non-Italian speaking tourists do this regularly.

It's about 4 miles to the airport, taxi should take around 10 minutes. Or you could take the tram, which will take 20 minutes.

Any hotel will reserve a taxi for you and that’s the best option.

If you are staying in an apartment you can search online for car services. I haven’t done it in Florence but I have in many other cities. You reserve and often pre-pay for a private car and driver. I am sure Florence has these services.

Absolutely no need to stay near the airport if you are in town. That just creates hassle (moving hotels) and ruins your last night in Florence (staying in town makes for a fun evening. Staying by the airport does not!).

I agree with most of he others. Absolutely no need to stay near the airport the night before. Our hotel was happy to prearrange our taxi and he was waiting for us at the appointed time. Early morning meant almost zero traffic and the trip only took a few minutes. Florence airport is small. We arrived too early (2 hours), and ended up twiddling our thumbs for a good long time.

Not ideal, but much better than watching your flight take off

If you’re near the tram (Piazza dell’Unita), it’s easy to take it to the airport. Tickets are €1.50 and trip takes 1/2 hour. Buy ticket beforehand and don’t forget to validate it.
