Airport Security in Rome

Can small manicure scissors be carried through security when leaving the Rome airport or do they need to go in checked luggage?

How long are the scissors? If the blades are longer than 6 cm then they have to be put into checked luggage.

Best to be in checked luggage if you do not want to risk it. EU airports have their own set of rules, and use the general guidance of "no sharp objects that could be used as weapons", with what constitutes that, left up to screening personnel. For example, the US TSA allows corkscrews, European airports do not. If they are a sharp point, I would think twice.

I have some absolutely amazing sharp Italian manicure scissors that were my aunt's that must be at least 40 years old. Despite being used several times a week, they remain super sharp and very good at tiny cutting. I miss them when I'm traveling, but do not dare taking them with me as I almost always travel "carry-on only." If they were to ever be confiscated by TSA or European security folks, there is no way I could every replace them. Just a thought...

My little fingernail clippers were confiscated when passing through security here in the US. No way I'd try to carry on little manicure scissors unless you're OK losing them.

If blades are less than 6 cm measured from the fulcrum they should be allowed, however it’s totally at the discretion of the security personnel. They confiscated a very small Swiss knife I had with blades under 6cm, so if you don’t check it in be ready for the possibility they might be seized..
