Airport at FCO

Hi everyone. For my trip to Italy in March, my flight out of FCO leaves at 6am, so I'm thinking I should stay at the hotel attached to the airport, the Hilton, but I have a few questions. First, I normally try to get to the airport about 3 hours before my flight, but since my flight leaves at 6, is that really necessary and can you even go to the gate at that time? Is it very obvious where you go from the hotel to get to the right place in the airport? To get to the hotel, do I take the Leonardo Express from Roma Termini to FCO then just walk over to the hotel? Is it easy to find? Any pointers or things that might seem obvious to many of you, but might go right over my head?

Thank you!

We are staying at the Hilton Garden Inn at the airport in Rome. The Rome Hilton is getting pretty pricey. We had Sapphire points, so that helps. Will report back after the trip. Safe travels!

Once you arrive at the airport station at the FCO airport walk toward the terminal using the aerial walkway and follow the sign to the Hilton.
Once at the end of the walkway you will descend the elevator (or the stairs) you see in the center of this image. The entrance to the Hilton is on the left of this same image. (In the same image, on the right under the aerial walkway in the background, you can see a long covered white structure. That structure is the train station you will be walking from.
To go the the terminal in the morning you take the same elevator to the aerial walkway and walk to the terminal you need to go (1 or 3).
If your flight is at 6:00am it's certainly a European flight, so you don't need to be there 3 hours ahead. It's like a US domestic flight within the US, therefore 90 min to 2 hours prior to departure is sufficient.

True.... But if your flight is to the UK, you are leaving the Schengen zone so a bit more time is needed than would be necessary than if the flight goes to Amsterdam, Paris, or Germany, to get the US bound flight.

We always have stayed at the FCO Hilton when leaving Rome. it is so convenient for dropping off rental cars as you can easily walk to the hotel. And you can also go to Ostia Antica easily.

I went ahead and booked the Hilton. It's pretty expensive, particularly because I'll be long gone before any breakfast might have been served, but knowing I won't have to stress getting transportation to the airport that early is worth it to me. Thanks everyone!

Oh, and I'm flying TAP to Lisbon (doing a long layover to explore Portugal a little) before heading back to the US.
