Airport Accomodations (FCO)

After a month in Italy, we will be flying out of FCO at (ugh) 6:45 AM. We will be staying with our relatives while in Rome, but that last night, I would like for them to be able to sleep and not have to take us to the airport. (they live east of Rome and the airport is west it appears)

So...we are looking for a hotel near the airport, preferably with a shuttle. As we will barely have five hours there before checking in, convenience and price NOT ambience is our priority.

Any suggestions?

Everybody wants "cheap" at FCO because they will only be getting 4-5hrs sleep. Unfortunately, they know why you are staying with them instead of a great last night and dinner in Rome.

CLICK HERE to see a map and list of hotels in Fiumicino as provided by www.tripadvisor.com. The Mach2 and Cancelli Rossi are known to have shuttles. But, they may have to be called in at 3:00am in the morning. The Hilton is not cheap, is described as "bland" and not worth it but they have a covered walkway into the terminal. It's a long walk but you can walk it.

If you were staying at a hotel, I would suggest staying in Rome and have the hotel have a shuttle service waiting for you at 3:00am. You can still do this at your relative's house and spend the last night there. 40-50Euro vs much more at the hotel at FCO.

Thanx Larry. I had checked out the Mach2 and the Cancelli Rossi but both are (night of September 30) E150. I guess for me, I will choose to sleep in a chair at the airport before I will spend $225 for a room until 3 AM. I probably would have chosen this option, except that I am sure my relatives would be appalled and would not accept NO for keeping me another night. I really want them to get some sleep on a work night though, so was trying not to involve them in this.

Not trying to play violins and I know that the whole world wants something for nothing, but $225 is alot for me and I would rather spend it elsewhere.

Your idea about a shuttle from my relatives flat interested me. Do you know if this would be possible and how I would find out how much it costs? It would be for 2 people, needing to be at the airport by I assume 3:30 and pickup being outside of Rome in Rocca di Papa Castelli Romani near Frascati.

Go To romashuttle.com. They picked us up at 0500 and took 4 of us to the airport for 48E. We had a 0630 flight. They will email you the rate. Also be aware, if you change planes within Europe, you only need to be at the airport 1-1.5 hours before your flight.
