Airlines

Hello. New at this so pardon my ignorance. Planning a trip for a tour March 29, 2019 thru April 10, 2019. When I book a flight, and it leaves Chicago at 9 p.m. and arrives in Rome at 11:30 a.m., am I correct in assuming it will be for that same day? Or is the time difference in effect, make it the next day?

And, any suggestions for airlines, preferably nonstop?

Thanks Much.

If leaving at 9 PM on 3/29 you would arrive in Rome at 11:30 AM on 3/30

Not sure who flies direct from Chicago to Rome ; likely only a couple of options and should be easy to find out.

Google "Chicago to Rome flights" and you'll see which carriers fly direct - American Airlines, British Airlines, etc.
I have very limited experience with American Airlines and none with British Airlines, so I'll refrain from making any recommendation as to which to select. I typically use price and itinerary as my main criteria for selecting an airline, since the majority of my airline experiences have been pretty much unremarkable or "mundanely OK".

Well, if it leaves at 9PM and is an 8 hour flight it arrives at 5AM the next day CHICAGO time.
Rome is 7 hours later than Chicago, I think. 5AM CHICAGO time is NOON ROME time. So if you leave on Tuesday at 9PM Chicago you get there at 12NOON Wednesday ROME time. Obviously I'm rounding here, but that's the idea...leaves PM of day 1 and arrives in the morning or early afternoon of day 2. All flights from the midwest or east coast to Europe I've seen follow this general schedule.

When you return it works the other way. Leave Rome at (all times estimated!) 10AM Tuesday (Rome time) and return 2PM Tuesday Chicago time (which is 8PM Rome time).

It is the next day. It is called an over night flight. Returning is the same day because you are chasing the sun. Only in the Pacific do you cross the international date line and gain or lose a day.

I believe all overnight flights show something like "+1" or such on or next to the arrival time

Planning a trip for a tour March 29, 2019 thru April 10, 2019

The 'tour' starts March 29?
If so, you need to leave 3-27 to arrive 3-28 so you can begin the tour on the 29th

I can find no non-stop ORD-FCO.... best you can do is a one stop. Where the stop is will depend on the airline you choose

I'm on a nonstop from Chicago to Rome this October on United, but it looks like it might be seasonal because I don't see it offered in March (there's also an American nonstop in October).

The flight will arrive at Rome at 11:30am the next day. If your tour starts on 3/29/2019 you need to depart on 3/27 at the latest. That will put you in Rome on 3/28, the day before your tour starts.

The time difference is normally 7 hours (Rome is 7 hours ahead of Chicago) HOWEVER it is only 6 hour difference between the second Sunday in March and the last Sunday in March.
That is because the US switches to Daylight Time two weeks earlier than Europe in Spring.
