Condor Airlines (economy division of Lufthansa & Munich-based)
I made the rookie mistake of purchasing tix from Boston to Milan based on price. I also wanted to fly over the Alps - the only redeeming feature of the flight. The following hopefully will help others:
1) Munich airport is surprisingly a nightmare with staff who mis-guides passengers regarding which lines one should be in upon arrival & were generally not helpful, often rude.
2) Multiple stairs & lack of escalators to walk to necessary locations within the airport.
3) Economy seats were rigid & very uncomfortable, flight attendants treated people as 2nd-class citizens vs business class. (We were 1 row behind business-class & noted the obvious difference.). Dinner offered on roundtrip flights was horrible to the extent of laughable. Thankfully, we relied on our sense of humor throughout the entire experience.
4) Here’s the final blow: the blankets offered were woven of grey & white wide-stripe course cotton fabric.
I flew in and out of Munich airport last year and it was a total nightmare.....long lines for check in, little assistance, confusing. Many of the staff of Lufthansa told us that they had never seen conditions so bad. I thought we were just unlucky on those days, but maybe not. We flew Lufthansa and the flights were ok, once we finally got onto the plane!
Condor Airlines (economy division of Lufthansa & Munich-based)
Condor is British owned. I believe Discover Airlines is the budget airline of Lufthansa.
Flew Condor once and definitely a budget carrier. I don’t think the seats recline and there were only 2 free movies. None of the 5 of us could tell if a circular brown object served with a meal was a sausage or a dessert brownie.
Another budget airline that is part of the Lufthansa group is called Eurowings. Flew them between Munich and Dubrovnik, basically the same as a Lufthansa European flight. I’ve passed through Munich several times and found it to be a very efficient airport. I even made a connection from a delayed arrival once in 20 minutes, including immigration.
I guess Eurowings is the budget airline subsidiary of Lufthansa and Discover is the “vacation airline” subsidiary. My sister recently flew FRA>>MSP and was originally booked on Lufthansa but it was changed to Discover before the flight. She said the flight was overwhelmingly used by Indian and East African US residents/citizens to visit family.
We have flown Condor several times; from Seattle to Frankfurt. In September connected in Frankfurt to Paris. Other times have used train travel from/to Frankfurt. We just booked another Condor trip for April. They had a decent Black Friday sale. We have never had a problem with Condor. Frankfurt is an easy airport to navigate. We can’t afford premium economy; instead book economy and choose bulkhead seats. We’ve experienced pleasant flight attendants. Food was airline food.
And you can use Alaska miles for Condor, plus earn miles for the to Europe flights. Honestly, we’d travel any day on Condor instead of Delta.
