AirFare Through Expedia Advice

Hi Everyone,

Im booking my flights to Italy for next July. Expedia is showing NONSTOP from Chicago to Rome then flying back from Venice to Chicago NONSTOP for 866 per person. Im thrilled with this price but never purchased through expedia. I do prefer to go directly through the Airlines but those prices are 1100.00 per person. Is there anything I need to know?

Nothing to worry about; all of your reservation info will show on the airlines platform or booking site in case you want to select a seat or check in.

Expedia is fine. I have never had a problem with an airline after booking through them; even when my flight was cancelled or delayed.

Interesting. These are AA flights, but book with AA and they want $1474, but book through AA codeshare partner Finnair, and the exact same flights are $863.

I've traveled to Italy in the past, booking on Expedia, and will be doing so again in December. My experience is that Expedia is reliable, and will work with you easily if there are delays, etc., in your flights. Expedia (and Travelocity) will give you the 6 digit confirmation code for your flights, so that you can go onto the airline's website directly to choose your seats, request special meals, and finally check in. For all of the reasons that many people have mentioned in other posts on this forum, I prefer to book directly on an airline's own website, but when it comes to multiple hundreds of dollars savings, well, I'm fine booking on one of these MORE TRUSTED second-party websites (these two specifically), and have had no bad experiences doing so.

You should always clear your cookies and do airfare searches in incognito mode. This will prevent the problem of fares jumping. Flight searching 101...

Have you looked at a metasearch engine like Kayak?

Sometimes patience and hesitation do not pay off. We tell our kids that airfares ARE like the stock market. If you see a great fare BUY before it disappears into thin air. Last summer we sat down for lunch while pondering a good fare and the fare jumped $300 per person. We had to change our dates slightly and picket up a connection on the return flight to keep our super low airfare.

I've booked several through Expedia, and have had no issues beyond normal air travel bumps. Enjoy the trip!

hey geeg
thot you booked it already. look at opposite, chicago to venice rome to chicago. nice to unwind in venice plus flights are very early (i call dark thirty -some leave at 6 - 7 am) may need to widen horizon and if non-stop there and 1 stop back, check layover times. what are your dates and how long are you staying in europe?

Hey geeg,
Try clearly all of your cookies and history and then try expedia again. If that doesn't work, try signing on and doing your expedia search on a different computer, if you have access to one. Good luck!

My sister had a similar experience with tickets from NYC to Prague. They were about $850 per person on Delta or Air France, but only about $400 on Expedia with an Air France code share number (exact same Delta plane in all cases - only one nonstop in each direction per day). She got a Delta locator number, an Air France locator number, and an Expedia locator number, so she was able to log into the Delta website to choose special meals and the Air France website to choose seats. Everything worked out fine, and with a family of four, the savings were substantial.

So, congratulations, and just keep all locator numbers (from Expedia and from American) handy, as you may need to get into different websites, or call different companies, for different things.
