What neighborhood would be best in Rome? We would stay 4-5 nights, would like to see the main sights, and experience the culture. Do not mind walking but would like the transit accessible as well. Arriving in Rome from the airport. Thanks

Also… guesthouse or working “farm” to stay at in Tuscany?

End of March

Staying off Via Giulia or Via di Coronari is my preference based on walkability and what's aroudn you. If you only need one room I would recommend a hotel. Often times you have to communicate checkin times with apartment rentals in Rome and its a bit of a hassle. Hotels you just check in. That said, if you're traveling with a group its worth the apartment.

Agriturismo in Tuscany is a great way to do things. Look for somethign near San Gimignano or Siena. Beautiful areas.

I really like the Monti neighborhood. Close to Termini train station, and a reasonable walk to most sights in the city center.

Enjoy your trip.

hey hey ksalyn65
welcome to the forum
how many is "we", any kids & ages? have you been before? what are you necessities needed, mobility issues, stairs/steps, budget in euros, cancellation policies read fine print. will you have a car or travel by train.
what part of tuscany are you hoping, it is a big area not a town, many are away from town central, which you will need a car to get around, if by train it will be slower. look at transportation routes within tuscany with trenitalia.com
if you do plan on having a car, you will need an IDP (aaa.com/IDP) for all drivers.read the rules, laws, ZTL zones, signage, parking which can be a real pain, if free, a charge, how far away in a garage, pulling pushing luggage on cobblestones/uneven pavement.
check-in is 3-4pm check-out is 10-11am, which is important and not waiting, sometimes hours with your luggage.

you can also look for apartments on the site, on left put in your filters and look at map. if you find something, come back and ask question here for good bad and ugly. research does wonders before you get there.
are you flying RT to rome or doing a multi-city (into one city out from another, not 2 one ways). good luck & enjoy

We stayed near Campo de Fiori, easy walk to the center, Trastevere, and the corso for a bus or two :)

I also prefer the Monti neighborhood because of its central location, proximity to the Cavour Metro station, and many restaurant options.

It is just two traveling. We fly into Rome and leave from Rome. We are not rushed for time and plan to stay in the major cities a few days each as well as smaller centres. For Tuscany we thought to plan a home base and the go out by car to see things. Everywhere else walking or transit. We hike and do a lot of walking at home.
Again, thanks for all the input. It is overwhelming to plan a longer adventure.
