Airbnb in sorrento

My husband and I will be taking our 2 children ages 10 and 15 months at time of travel to Europe next summer. We want to rent a house or apartment in Sorrento because it will be a lot easier to have a place with a kitchen with the little one. I was looking at airbnb and I was overwhelmed when looking at places to stay. I don't know the area so I have no clue where to stay. Has anyone ever used airbnb for sorrento or have ideas of areas within the city to stay that are convenient locations?

HI,

We are taking our first trip to Italy this year.

We have booked an apartment in Sorrento that is close to Piazza Tasso.
It's the center of the area, shops, restaurants, and ferry and beach access are not that far.

Hope this helps

Agreed, it's s hard place to get a feel for on a map. You'll see there a busy road SS145 that loops outside the town center. That road is not as far as it looks, if you're near that you're fine. Though it is a pretty busy, noisy road so be aware if you're right on it. The town is very walkable from end to end in a few minutes. You probably want to avoid accommodations on Via Capo or down in the old port (Via Mare) these would require a fair amount of walking with elevation, and are not convenient to the train station or the ferries.

I would find a place near Piazza Tasso and the Old Town. Around there it's pretty flat and you'll also be within walking distance of the train/bus station. I suppose around the marina is nice too but it will probably be more expensive and it will be a bus ride to the train station.

Enjoy your planning!

We stayed there in an AirBnB as a base for Herculaneum and Pompeii last year, and it worked well. We ended up choosing an apartment in a mid-rise concrete building with great views, but lacking the charm we found in some of our other stays.

First off, I'm not sure there is a 'bad' neighbourhood in Sorrento, so it's not like you'll get stuck in a shady part of town. If you are planning to head out on day trips, being close to the train station is helpful. We were only a 10 minute walk to the station, and there were few hills, which I'd imagine would be a blessing with two wee ones in tow. As stated above, definitely don't stay right on the water if you plan to use the train lots, as the main part of town is actually quite a ways up in the air.

Then again, if you plan to sit and relax, being on the water might be ideal. One other thing: if you want to take a ferry to Capri or the like, there is a pay elevator that'll get you down to water level. Might be handy with luggage or kiddos to skip all the stairs. My wife is not good with heights, so it saved us a terrifying (for her) descent of stairs, anyway...
