My sister and I will be flying in to Milan two nights before out tour starts in Varenna. Has anyone stayed at an AirBNB that you would recommend? Since Milan isn’t on our tour, we thought we’d stay somewhere different in case we felt like exploring while we acclimate.
hi newbook
just my own opinion, i would not rent an airbnb for 2 days. depending on what time your arrival into milan, where you flying in from. that's 1 day, next day jetlag if coming from an international flight. next morning packing up, check out, breakfast, then transportation to "veranno". is it veranna on lake como? don't want to sound like a downer.
others here on the forum can give you info about where best to stay in milan.
aloha
I agree. A hotel for two nights is far more efficient. Assuming you mean “Varenna” you will leave from Milano Centrale and there are a number of good, reasonably priced hotels nearby (like a 5 minute walk) that offer a fine breakfast and are close to the Metro. Take a look at Hotel Berna or Hotel Garda. By staying in a hotel you get lots of help 24x7, easy check-in, etc.
I am curious if there is a particular reason to prefer hotel over AirBNB? Several that I’ve seen also have breakfast and the host is available to help as well. We originally were going to try to book at the first hotel of the tour but the price was too high and seemed like 4 days in one place rather than start with the two in Milan made more sense. Thoughts?
I thought you meant an Airbnb apartment. I think an apart, ent for two night sis not worth the hassle. If the “Airbnb” you are looking at is run as a good old-fashioned B and B, it will probably work well. Just make sure location is beneficial (central).
None of our airbnb apartments have been any hassle and most of the hosts were far more helpful than any hotel staff. I choose airbnb apartments and hosts very, very carefully, so I guess there's some hassle there except that I enjoy doing it.
One trip, flying in and out of Milan, we stayed one night on arrival and one night before departure at this place --- way more fun and idiosyncratic than any hotel could ever be. Just look at the photos, even if you don't think you'd go the airbnb route:

Marco is a kind and interesting superhost (always pick superhosts, if possible) and he met us at the train station and helped us carry our suitcases up the 4 flights of stairs. I would have paid money just to explore this apartment for an hour! I think there is a sofa bed in addition to the double bed.
Hotel-wise, the Berna is near the station and is fine.
