air travel to Italy

I'll be flying to Milan from Denver in early Aug. Tickets are pricy now. Is there any chance they'll be cheaper if I wait a while?

Prices are way up from last year. As before, gas prices are up. Flights from Denver to Europe are more expensive..unless you got in that Lufthansa direct to Munich (but that deal is over)

Shop the usual sites and keep checking. Flights this year are over $1,000. Last year they were $850 or so. No one knows if they will come down. You have to decide when to buy and keep your fingers crossed that you get a good price.

Some will say check at midnight on Wed when the airlines post new routes/prices. I've never found that to work. Orbitz is a good place to watch as is Travelocity. Continental airlines seems to have the least expensive flights to Europe most of the time.

Good Luck!

I just bought tickets from Denver to Venice and Rome back to Denver for the month of April. $830! I know April's not your timeframe, but the cheapest flights I found were http://www.alitalia.com/. I looked on Travelocity, United's website, Orbitz, SideStep, Lufthansa, and even British Airways before I booked with Alitalia. Hope that helps!

That was April -- tickets are always cheaper in that time frame. Going to Rome on May 27 and returning from Zurich June 20. The best we could find WITH decent connections was $1200. Did see some tickets in the range of 1100 but with very poor connections. The open jaws tickets was $100 cheaper than RT Rome. I would guess that 1000 to 1200 in August would be reasonable/

I agree with Frank....there were specials for United new route to Rome available in April, but that special is over now. Rates are still @ $1,000.

I have noticed rates coming down just a bit. I'm watching for Zurich in October this year and United is down about $100 the last few days...but still over $1,000. Last year I paid @$750 for the same time frame.
