Air or train

Looking for advice on the best way to travel from Stuttgart to Venice. Venice to Florence, Florence back to Stuttgart. We don’t want to rent a car.

Also what tours or sites are must see’s in and around those city’s. Best way to get to those sites.
Thank you in advance for your input and advice it is greatly appreciated.

I'd probably take the train from/to Stuttgart. (And I'd definitely take the train between Venice and Florence.) I don't know the train routes - I'd look at www.bahn.com (but maybe buy tickets via www.trainline.eu).

You get around Venice by walking or by boat (vaporetto is the "water bus" that goes on the canals.). Florence is pretty easy to navigate on foot. For the "must sees," pick up a guidebook like the Rick Steves Italy book - that's what I always do before visiting a new place.

As it appears train travel from Stuttgart to Venice is 8+ hrs, I would be inclined to to fly in/out of Stuttgart and train between Venice and Florence

My suggestion would be to take a look at Easy Jet. Looks like they fly to Venice from Stuttgart, but you would have to take a train from Florence to Malpensa Airport (just north of Milan) and they fly from there to Stuttgart. Using October for an idea of price looks like 142.00 E for both flights. Use the train while in Italy for sure. You did not say what the length of your trip will be.
I also recommend RS book. There is a smaller book on just Venice and I believe one on Florence. If not do get his book on Italy. It is a wealth on information.
