Air One & Easy Jet - Cabin Baggage question

I'm doing some flying around on smaller airlines within europe this summer, and I cannot understand from either website (Air One and Easy Jet) whether the cabin bag is the ONLY item I can take on board, or if I am also allowed a "personal item" like a purse. Does anyone know? I don't plan to check baggage, so would like to be sure I don't arrive at the airport and then have to pay (expensive rates) to check at the gate. Thanks.

Note that I jumped the gun based on experience only with EasyJet and Ryan. George's link says that Air One also permits a shrimpy something else.

Debra,

Just to confirm what the others have mentioned, EasyJet only allows ONE carry-on item per passenger of the approved size (there's no weight limit). That doesn't include a "personal item", it means one ONLY. You may have to pay to check one item as they're usually quite strict about the "one bag" rule.

I've never flown with Air One so can't offer any comments on their practices.

Thanks, everyone, this is really helpful! I suppose for Air One (well, for BOTH airlines, really) it would be advisable to have scary-to-lose items in a small bag within your cabin bag so you could quickly pull it out and keep it with you in the cabin, for example, phone/wallet/passport.

And for Easy Jet, when they say if you choose to gamble on the slightly-bigger cabin bag size limit (56x45x25) and they wind up putting it in the hold, do you suppose that means it's still considered your cabin bag, and NOT charged as checked luggage?
