Has anyone had any trouble using an electronic air line ticket for flights as opposed to a paper ticket....both roundtrip from US to Italy and also a one way flight from Rome to Turin? Any suggestions?
Never had trouble and I've used e-tickets both domestically and internationally probably more than 50 times. In fact, I think e-tickets are much easier, a lot of the time you can even check in the day before, and if you lose your ticket it's no big deal because it's the confirmation that's important. I had a paper ticket on my trip to europe last summer and it was a pain because it was one more thing to keep track of!
Thanks for the info from someone who has experience.
Paper tickets are quickly becoming dinosaurs. Most all airlines only deal with e-tickets these days and don't give you the choice of paper tickets even if you are willing to pay extra handling charges. I never had a problem with them.
i for one am being dragged into the 21 century, kicking and screaming. i just don't TRUST this "e-ticket". i used it last year, No problem for italy, and i understand paper tickets are going the way of the VCR.
i just have this..nightmare where i am at the ticket counter, they don't have any record of my ticket, and i get sent home because the computer trumps logic, and reality, and human error .but..it is no longer a matter of choice. i'll finally put my foot down when they try the "e-ticket-brain -inplants". :]
I actually can't remember the last time I used a paper ticket. I have never had a problem ever. Many discount airlines don't do paper tickets at all anymore.
Side note: Electronic tickets are even slowly on the way out. I do a lot of domestic travel in Canada on Air Canada, and I almost exclusively use mobile check-in and wireless boarding passes. Basically you get your boarding pass barcode text messaged to your phone and you scan your phone. You can do mobile check-in on any domestic and and all international flights leaving Canada. Very cool do check-in and select your seat from your phone while on the way to the airport!
Edit: I just looked and I've done mobile check-in/boarding passes 6 times in the last two weeks! (but only once to London outgoing last year)

What's a paper ticket???? :)
I always bring a copy of the pertinent e-tickets and reservation numbers. I usually hi-lite them on the paper for easy locating.
I still have a strange uneasiness about checking in electronically - this worry that for some reason I will be delayed in getting to the airport. I have done this the few times I've flown Southwest though - when you needed to in order to get the "A" seating. I'm still one of the few people who use their cell phone only as a phone though. I have the minimum plan with rollover, and in less than a year I've got more rollover than minutes that I've used in the last couple of years combined...
I have not seen a paper ticket is YEARS. But that said, when traveling to Italy we use our TA. She always sends us what looks like paper tickets. They are actually only receipts for the e-tickets. We try to give those to the check-in agent and they always just want the passport. Even on the return from Italy.
I can't speak for the inner-Italy travel. We drive within the country.
