Air Conditioning in May

Hi all, I think I read in an RS book that the Italian government 'shuts' down the usage of air conditioning for 30 days in both the Spring and Fall. 1. Is this still true? 2. If so, exactly when does this occur? We are traveling in late May and some of the choices I've made for hotels cost extra because we wanted air conditioning. Just don't want to be surprised. Thanks!

I don't think it's the national government. An innkeeper told me it was the regional authorities and that the dates can vary from year to year.. Thus it would seem that it would vary by location.
