Airbnb is driving all of the locals out of Venice because they can no longer compete with the Airbnb rates for housing. I will not use Airbnb because of that. Airbnb might be better for you but it is detrimental to Venice.

How many nights are you going to spend there?

We really enjoyed Casa Rezzonico, a small family-run B&B in the Dorsoduro district. Charming garden for breakfast, weather cooperating. Right on one of the small canals.

I think that with only two nights, a hotel might be better for you. Many apartment rentals have a three or four night minimum stay.

We stayed at Hotel Serenissima Venice on an RS tour and it was great. A short walk to the main square and we found much of Venice very walk-able. We walked a couple blocks in the other direction and hopped on a boat to Murano, and Burano.

I like apartments for stays over 3 nights, but you are staying 2 so maybe a hotel would be better. The hassle of getting the keys and possibly grocery shopping isn't as worth it. I do stay in apartments for 2 night stays if I'm in the countryside and there aren't a lot of hotels or the dark sky and isolation is a goal (Iceland!) but that does not apply to Venice!

Another recommendation - Locanda Casa Querini - very small, only 6 rooms I think, central location near San Marco yet not right on a very busy street

I’d recommend B&B Nina San Croce, they are relatively inexpensive, clean and attractive rooms, really lovely service and only about a five minute walk from the main train station, or to the waterbus station too.

We would recommend Hotel al Ponte Mocenigo. It is easily reached from the San Stae vaporetto stop off the Grand Canal in a minutes walk. It is charming, has everything you need in a room, a great staff, and a wonderful breakfast in a lovely courtyard. It is a recommended hotel in Rick's Italy book. The surrounding area is quiet with lots of eating options.

We stayed at the Hotel Giorgione last time and really enjoyed it. Loved the area. We're going with 2 other couples for 3 nights next month, so it was much more economical to get an AirBNB.
