Looking for Air BnB recommendations in Rome, somewhere near Piazza Navona, Campo Fiori or the Vatican. There are lots of options out there, thought I'd try here for a tried and tested option. Thanks!
Monica, the Vatican area is pretty far away from other things ("far" as in a lengthy walk, but not miles and miles). I also stayed a hearty walk away from the center of the city, in Trastevere. I loved it. But I was there for almost 2 weeks and didn't mind spending a considerable amount of time walking to my destinations every day. If your time is limited, I would suggest ditching the Vatican apartment. As for recommendations, I have found the Airbnb reviews to be pretty candid and realistic.
I stayed in an Airbnb near Piazza Barberini and found it to be a perfect location within 5 minutes of the Metro and a comfortable 20 minute walk to historic sites, museums, etc. Piazza Barberini is a lively area but not necessarily filled with tourists. PM me if you want info about the specific property I rented.
Thanks all! This will be our third time in Rome and just want to show the hit a couple of spots with our son and in laws who have never been to Rome. Focusing on the Vatican and the main sights. Figured we can just hop on the metro to get places.
This is were we stayed and the host and apt location was great. Bus stop right outside and walking distance to the Vatican.

this is where we have Air bnb reservations...13 min on train, about $100 less per night. Fits our travel budget well. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/4323394
You don't say what kind of apartment you are looking for but I can recommend this one. We absolutely loved it!
"Figured we can just hop on the metro to get places." Just FYI, the Metro is not particularly useful for many sites in the historic center.
Not Airbnb but this is where we are staying in a month. Excellent location, terrace and great reviews.

We stayed with this lovely chap in the Saint Angel apartment: http://www.silviosholidayhomes.com
I stayed in Campo Dei Fiori last October. Location was great - it could have used some updates but a very comfortable place. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/7523675
We stayed at Boutique Grifone (flats with a shared kitchen -- booking.com) in the Monti district just last week -- walk out the door and see the Colosseum! Great fun neighborhood, lots of restaurants, quick walk to Cavour or Colosseum metro stations.
We stayed in a sweet apartment, MyEcoRhome. Very convenient to all of Historic Rome, located on Via dei Cartari. Could not have asked for a better apartment or hosts. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/2800231
Check out VRBO 1704120. Owner Roberto Funto. Photos don't do it justice. Read reviews. Stayed there a few weeks ago. Highly recommend. He also has connections with a driver that will pick you up at the airport and take you directly to the apartment for €40. Used the driver and he was great. Might go to other apts as well but only does airport runs back and forth
