My sister flew Air Berlin 2 yrs ago. No issues except needed to check bag because of weight. Not sure if she flew Prem. Econ but she got a goodie bag of slippers, eye mask, etc. I believe she was routed through Dusseldorf.

I've flow Air Berlin several times. They were very professional and just fine. We also chose them because they had the best rates for where we were traveling.

That is a very short flight to Dusseldorf; how bad could it be?

I flew Air Berlin from Madrid to Berlin last year and it was a very good flight. No problem at all. I liked the company. They weight my carry on at the check-in counter. No surprises as my porter 30 was on their requirements limits. I made my homework before as you can see.

I've flown them both transatlantic (JFK to Berlin) and within Europe (Vienna to Berlin). They're fine. As always, double check the baggage rules, and if your bag is too big or heavy for carry-on, pre-pay the checked luggage fee online; it's usually much more expensive if you wait until you get to the airport.

And if you do want to fly them within Europe, book ASAP. My Vienna to Berlin flight started at €40, but I wasn't ready to book. By the time I booked it (only a few weeks later), it had gone up to €100. The next week was €110, and I then stopped looking so I have no idea how high it got just before departure (it there were tickets left at all).
