We will be spending time in Tuscany in June 2012. Hoping to find accomodations in an agriturismo in the Siena or Montepulciano area. Does anyone have any reommendations or suggestions. Right now, I am feeling a little lost. Thanks!!!
cinda,
Try La Crociona http://www.lacrociona.com/ This will give you ideas of what to see http://www.slowtrav.com/italy/tuscany/hs_planning.htm
There's another great resource here at SlowTrav.com. And I'm glad for your sake that you dropped the idea of going without reservations. :-) You're going to have a great time. Happy travels.
Cinda, I recommend Agriturismo Marciano in Siena. You can read the fantastic reviews on TA. It's a real gem & I would stay there again in a heart beat! Their rates are very reasonable and the optional dinners are to die for. The rooms are very clean and comfortable but they book up fast.
Cinda, we stayed at Agri Borgo Sicelle, (http://www.borgosicelle.it/en/) It was 3 km from San Donato, and right in the middle between Firenze and Siena. For only $65 EU /nite we had a huge apt, with an awesome view, just steps from the the pool. See reviews on Trip Advisor.
Cinda, I'll be staying at Cretaiole next week near Pienza. I can let you know how it goes. http://www.cretaiole.it/index.en.php
Il Canto de sole, about 7 or 8 kilometers south of Siena, is fabulous.
We loved La Traverse just outside Pienza - lovely area in general!
Just last week we stayed at Podere Vignali with the owner Carlo. He made our stay a success. He is a sincere, intelligent and funny man who cooks great and his place is an old convent which he restored beautifully and with class. Have at least one dinner with him - it is worth it. Tell him Debi sent you. www.poderevignali.it
In May, we stated at Agriturismo Terre di Nano at the Montepulciano/Montecchiello line. There are 3 separate apartments outside of the inn as well as rooms and an apartment within the inn. They serve the best breakfast in Italy as well as a dinner. You are near Pienza, Siena, Orvieto, etc. They make their own wine and olive oil. The service was great, the views to die for. Would return every year, if I had the time and money.
http://www.agriturismoniccolai.it/ These accomodations are part of a winery which I toured last week. I did not stay here but it is at the top of my list for my next visit.
We just got back from 4 nights in Montepulciano and stayed at Villa Mazzi. It was a wonderful stay and only cost 80 euros a night. Our room was huge and came with a kitchen and bathroom. Also, the views were breathtaking. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
Another vote for Agriturismo Marciano near Siena. Just returned from a 4-night stay a few weeks ago and it was wonderful. Property is lovely, rustic and relaxing - rooms are simple, bright and clean. Great jumping off point for exploring the hill towns of Tuscany as well as being close enough to Siena for meals, sightseeing and shopping. And as Sheron mentioned in an earlier post - the homemade dinners by the innkeeper are amazing and well worth the stay alone. Very memorable experience.
