agriturismo near Siena

We are looking for a place for early October to explore the small Tuscan towns of Cortona, Siena, Montepulciano, San Gimignano and Montelcino. We are thinking perhaps one near Siena might be a good central location. Any suggestions??

I highly recommend Villa Il Castagno, just outside of Siena. Stunning location, super helpful people working there. We renewed our vows there (25 year anniversary) and had a really great time. It was a bit cool when we went in May, so we weren't able to use the pool, but hopefully in early October, you'll be able to. villailcastagnowineresort.com

We stayed a little further north, but given your list, an agriturismo near Siena would work out great! How long to you plan to stay?

Add Volterra to your list, it is just up the road from San Gimignano. You could do both in a day if needed, but it might be nice to do them in two trips so you could spend more time wandering the countryside.

I'm assuming you are renting a car. Where do you fly in/out?

Cortona is on the border with Umbria, east of Siena, but worth the trip. It is not a small town but has a lot of interesting sites to see. On the hillside, you can visit the Celle of St. Francis.

We have stayed here several times.
Very central for everything you want to see, nothing over an hour away.

Great hosts, who speak English, and a fabulous place to stay.

There's lots of info in their PDF.

We stayed at Agriturismo Mormoraia last October and absolutely loved it. We were within a 5 min drive to San Gimignano. I believe it took us around 45 min to get to Siena. The staff, amenities and restaurant were lovely. We definitely plan to visit again.

We also stayed at the agriturismo villa il castagno in 2016.
It was wonderful. From this location, we explored Siena, San Gimignano and Volterra, Montelcino, Pienza, Montepulciano, Castellina in Chiani, Val D'orcia.

Another agriturismo that has come highly recommended by posters on this site is Agriturismo Marciano, ten minutes from Siena. I haven't stayed there myself but based on posters recommendations as well as TripAdvisor's 5 star rating I recommended it to my nephew and bride for their honeymoon. They returned and told us it as their favourite stay of their whole trip.

Thank you all for the suggestions! It's very confusing trying to decide on which place to stay. Agriturismo Marciano is full on the days we need, but the others have options. Has anyone stayed at Frances Lodge outside of Siena? I'm hoping to make a decision over the weekend and then I need a place in Florence for 2 nights, and our last night in Rome. We are taking the Heart of Italy tour starting in Rome, and ending in Florence and then continuing to travel on our own for 8 nights.
