I stayed at an agriturismo in Caltanisetta, near the center of the island, which was about an hour drive from Agrigento (not difficult). It was lovely and I'd certainly there again: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/italy-reviews/sicily-caltanisetta-central-sicily-agrigurismo
