agriturismo: metina / crociona ?

Does anyone have experience staying at Metina near Montalpuciano or Crociona near Montalcino? Looking for an agriturismo for our 3 night stay in October. We are interested in exporing the area and tasting wine. Thank you.

Julia,
I have stayed at La Crociona several times. The apartments are great. They have everything you need. There is so much to see in the area I have had to go back and I still haven't seen it all. If you are a wine lover it is hard to do better than Brunello.

If you are interested I have a large file on things to do in the area. E-mail me and I will send it. [email protected]

I stayed at Crociona in October of 2006. The converted haybarn was comfortable and clean. The sound from upstairs came through so be aware if you are on the bottom level. Other members of the family had apartments in the main building and they were okay but showing lots of wear.

The owner/manager, Barbara was a pain to deal with. We booked because the web site said that cooking classes and wine tasting were offered but when we got there we couldn't do either. We had to buy our own toilet paper and were not allowed to use the washer even though they first said we could.

There is a big list of rules in order not to be a "rude" guest. On the last day, you have to strip the beds, place the soiled linen in a central location, sweep the apartment, and carry out the trash even though you pay a cleaning fee.

They have a neighborhood feud going and you can't walk on the road to the neighbor's property.

I would give a miss on my next trip.

OMG, Trish's post was SO true!!! We stayed at Crociona, too, and got the same letter on how not to be a rude guest! And we did not have hot water for showers until we complained. They were trying to save money by turning off the pilot light. We had to relight it for every shower! We did get to use the washer, but we had to pay. And we never got the cooking class or wine tasting that was promised. "It wasn't offered at the time we were there". On the positive side, the room was nice, but I would not go back there again.
