Agriturismo Marciano into Siena without a car-possible?

Hello--
I'm going to Siena for 2 days without a car -- is there a practical way to get into Siena and back each day without one from this agriturismo? (I'm coming from Florence by bus. I'd really like to try an agriturismo but for the subject in general, the idea of how to get into a town if one doesn't have a car eludes me. Maybe agriturismos only make sensel with a car?

I had a car there. Eileen (a regular poster here) did not. I think they walked into town once, used taxis and even got a ride or two into town from other people staying there.

It's close enough for a taxi without breaking the bank. But with a car you'd be able to maximize your time visiting the many villages in the Siena province.

We are staying at Marciano with a car but plan to just take a taxi into Siena to avoid parking fees and issues.
From my research it looks like a 40 Euro RT maybe 10 min each way

You might also want to take train from Florence instead of bus- if you are going right to Marciano to check in
Bus takes you into town, train is outside- closer to Marciano, taxis right there.

Why are all of You People going to MY Marciano?!? ;-) They had better have a room available for me when I want one in the future...just sayin'.

Theresa, as Andrea stated, we walked into town one day. (If you know how to use Google Street View, you can make the same walk from Marciano's driveway) My husband had a bad cold so he stopped alot to rest, AND he took about 34,938 pictures along the way (sigh). We were in Piazza del Campo within 45 minutes. I could have done it in 20 ;-) One day we split a taxi with another group, and the next day we rode in with another couple (scary, but free LOL!). Taxis into town are about 15€. A taxi from a taxi stand (I'm sure RS' books still includes their locations) was more like 10€, since you're not paying for the trip out to the agriturismo AND the trip back into town. Well worth it for us. (We were there Fall 2011) Plus, the taxi rides were an interesting cultural experience in their own right. Can you say NASCAR 8^O ? Warn them in advance when you're approaching the turn-off into the driveway...This agriturismo is actually on the outskirts of town, but the road makes for a much longer journey, unfortunately. You won't feel like you're that close to town, though. No city noises, only city views.

Since we were planning on staying IN Siena, it made no sense for us to pay for a rental car to sit in a parking lot all day simply to go to and from the agriturismo. There is probably somebody else wanting to go into town after breakfast; ask around if anyone wants to share a taxi. The owners will call one for you. Plus, no drinking and driving :-)

And definitely take the train between Florence and Siena, for the reason mentioned above by ChristineH.

Theresa, yes you can do this without a rental car. My wife and daughter stayed at the Agriturismo Marciano for 3 days this past September. They intended to rent a car at the Hertz office near the train station but it was closed. Rapidly, adjusting, they simply took a taxi to the Agriturismo. Worked out perfectly. Each day, they took a taxi into Siena. Fare was about 12Euro each way. No worry about parking anywhere. Near the end of their stay, they returned to Hertz and picked up the rental car. They did need the rental car to go to other places in Tuscany as well as the next nights stay in Assisi. They turned the car in at Orvieto several days later. With no real need in Siena, they saved 3 days rental on the car.

All of that being said, if you intend to day trip out of Siena from the Agriturismo, you will need the rental car. However, you absolutely don't need it to go to and from Siena.

It's no big deal to drive in to Siena from Marciano. They will give you good advice about where there is free parking outside the walls. If you only plan to see Siena while there, just take a cab. As noted a car is very useful for seeing other hill towns.

Well, thank you all.
On an earlier post i listed my Italy 22 day October itinerary which many of you said would kill you (incl 3 consecutive nights in 3 Tuscan/Umbria places) trying to see too much. Soooo, I ditched CT, added a day to magical Venice, and streamlined my Tuscany/Umbria trip to 2 nights each in Siena, Assisi, and Orvieto. Here is explanation of why no car: Since I never met a cathedral/basilica/church I didn't love, I want to spend 1 full day (= 2 nights you folks told me) in each town. And to forgo the drives all over to hill towns til my next trip to Italy. That way I don't have to waste $ with a car parked all day for those Siena and Assisi days & nights. Next time I'll do the home base in an agriturismo to drive around to hill towns and I don't even have to deal with getting into Siena or Assisi (brief excursion to Orvieto to drop off the car.)
(Eileen, rest easy, you may have my AM nights this year).
This forum and all of you continue to amaze me. Grazie!
