Agriturismo Inalbi and Impruneta

Hi. Has anyone stayed at Agriturismo Inalbi in Tuscany or the Impruneta area? Is it as beautiful and centrally located as other areas? We will have a car. Also, we are traveling with 2 active teenagers (14 & 15) and plan to go to Lucca for bike riding. Other recommendations (other than Florence)? We have 4 nights (then spending 1 night in Florence).
Thank you!

Have not stayed there, but the general area has some great day trips. Look at the first five on this list. Some are easily combined with Impruneta and others with Lucca.

The Leonardo museum by the town of Vinci has a holographic presentation of the elder Leonardo explaining his life.

Certaldo has a funicular to the top of town and a festival in June.

You could combine Lucca with an afternoon at the beach in Viareggio.

gerri--Thank you for your response and suggestions. Combining the beach with Lucca is a great idea. We will have visited the Cinque Terre 1 1/2 weeks earlier, but will be coming from 3 nights in Naples and 5 nights in Rome. The kids will be ready for another beach day. Certaldo and Vinci also look interesting. With teens it's good to have something to do in a town other than just generally walking around.

Do you think the Impruneta area is just as beautiful as other areas in Tuscany? (I know this is a subjective question.)

I don’t know the Agriturismo specifically but Impruneta is one of the prettiest towns in one of the prettiest areas of the Florence surroundings. You are basically in the Chianti area, but perfectly located to visit Florence, which is very close. You can be in the city center at the Porta Romana Parking lot in less than 1/2 hour drive even with traffic. The rest of the Chianti is minutes away and Siena, San Gimignano, Monteriggioni are all less than an hour away.

Who wouldn’t like Impruneta? Some of my richest college friends live(d) in Impruneta (yes, Impruneta is not for the working class much).

Subjectively, yes there are "prettier spots in Tuscany. You're going to be in the countryside, which, as far as I have have seen is pretty scenic everywhere.

The location you've picked has great access to the A-11 and the Siena-Florence freeway. Heading all the way south to Montepulciano. (Too far as a day trip, but if driving from Rome a great stop). A circle from this location within an hours drive will enable you to see Siena, Castellina in Chianti, Montereggioni, Greve, Radda, Volterra, San Gimignano, Pistoia, Montecatini Terme as well as the ones mentioned above. Look at them all, in most instances you can visit 2 towns a day.

To get an idea of drive times, they're not accurate, look at

Hope this helps.

Good to hear that the area sounds nice. I wasn't sure if it was more of a suburb of Florence or really in the country.

I appreciate the responses.

Suburb is not a term that adapts well to the Italian (European) urban development scene.
American suburbs conjure up images of sprawling new tract developments without a character of their own, but rather dormitories that were recently developed to serve (to house) the people who worked in the big city.

Italian towns around big cities were villages withlife of their own just as old as the main city. They weren’t necessarily something that was born for commuters to the city. Impruneta is a separate municipality bordering the municipality of Florence, just like Fiesole is a municipality bordering the city to the north, but both are villages with their own character that were there long before Florence was built (both Fiesole and Impruneta are Etruscan hilltowns built before the Romans came and founded Florence).

Very interesting. American suburbs are fairly characterless. I live in New York City and love cities. Any thoughts about Naples in July? I'm planning to visit for 3 nights after Rome for 5. I think that my family will like Naples. "Gritty" as many describe it, doesn't worry me, but the heat does. I'm considering moving those 3 nights to the 4 in Impruneta (or somewhere else in Tuscany).
