Agriturismo in Siena to walk to?

Looking for agriturismo farmhouse to stay in as my base. I will not have a car.

Jane Ann, I think most agriturismos will be outside of Siena, and not really within walking distance. If you are set on staying at an agriturismo, I would start emailing any you are interested in and ask them about the logistics of staying there with no car. DH and I will be staying at Il Canto del Sole (found in RS Italy 2011). The reviews on TripAdvisor are all excellent and very good. I emailed Laura, and actually called to speak to her as well. She was more than helpful, and could probably answer your questions about getting around without a car. I think they have bicycles for rent (for free for guests maybe?).

I agree with Amy -- have been there many times and never found an Agritourismo within walking distance of Siena. There are some cute (but small) apartments to rent in Siena that are a good alternative. Not a farm, of course, but a really good base for exploring the city.

Agree with the others; there really aren't agriturismos within quick walking distance of walled Siena. We stayed at Agriturismo Marciano which is only 10 minutes by car from walled Siena and while I heard that some people do walk from the agriturismo to walled Siena, I personally think it's a bit too far to walk. But, why not stay at an agriturismo & take a taxi to the walled city? Even though we had a rental car, we still took a taxi to the walled city because parking is a bit cumbsersome. We used the car to visit other hilltowns. By the way, I highly recommend Agrit. Marciano if you are interested in staying at an agriturismo. Read the reviews on Trip Advisor; it's a fantastic place! Have a great trip.

I agree with Sheron about Agriturismo Marciano - it would be too far to walk into Siena IMO, but worth the extra effort to find a way to stay there. The experience of staying at Marciano was one of the highlights of our 3 weeks in Italy. If you do stay there, be sure to participate in their optional dinners. It was the best food we had during a trip filled with some pretty tasty food!!
