My husband and I are planning on staying in the CT for three nights in May 2015. (Yes, that is very far away, but we love doing our research). Does anyone have any good recommendations for an agriturismo near the CT to stay in? We will not be driving a car, so we could either walk (we only have carryons) or take a taxi. Thanks!
I am afraid I don't have a recommendation for you, but I do have a follow-on question and that is why an agriturismo in this particular area? We have been there several times and it is more an area for B&Bs, small hotels and apartments, as a rule.
Emily,
As Laurel mentioned, the Cinque Terre is an area that has mostly small family run hotels and B&B's. However you might have a look at Agriturismo Buranco in Monterosso. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find an English-language link on their website. It's located in the "old town" area, and you should be able to walk from the station. I'm sure the hotel will provide more specific directions.
If you decide to stay there, I'd recommend booking EARLY! Note that many tourist businesses in that area close for the season from about November to February or March, so you may not get speedy replies if you contact them in the winter.
Emily,
While walking around Monterosso we went up to Agriturismo Buranco for some wine tasting. It was a nice place, I didn't see the inside of the rooms. I'd stay there if Vernazza is booked up on my trip. Buranco is walkable from the train station, it was about a 10 min walk. Once you reach the back of town you'll start walking up a hill. The walk would be faster if it wasn't for the hill. There are some nice views into town from there. It was maybe 1/4 of the way up the side of the hill.
Separate towns within the Cinque Terre have room-booking services to help you find apartments or rooms in private homes, or Rick's Italy book also lists several individual B&Bs and room owners, so you can skip the middle-man.
