Agriturismo around Siena

Hi:

I am planning for a summer trip to Italy in June/July right now. We plan to spend 2 nights in Florence and 3 nights around Siena. The farm house called Agriturismo Marciano gets good review and at a good location. This is new to me so I'd like to ask for some suggestions from the well traveled in this forum.

1. Does anyone stay at this place or somewhere similar, who is the experience?
2.Seems the process of making reservation requires some effort, like mail conformation, wire money, etc.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Tony

We stayed at an Agriturismo called Il Canot Del Sole... we LLLOOOVVVEEDD IT!!! It was our favorite place on our entire trip. You would have to have a car though. They were really easy to communicate with by email and I believe we payed at the end, I don't remember if it was cash or charge though. All their meals were incredible plus some of the restaurants in the little village area its in. Great location to Siena, about a 5-10 min drive into the city.

Agriturismo Marciano
Book it fast, we stayed three nights, if they suggest having dinner there, book that too.
We were travelling independently and both the two dinners there was great company.
The only thing that wasn't from their farms was the pasta.
Reservation was no different to all of the others, emails confirmations were in english,
deposit was by credit card. As in Italy pay cash for a discount.
regards

ps, the website photos are the real thing...

pss the food was first class, if you ask you can also take a cooking class, but we didn't so
don't know the cost.

What Gerard said!

We stayed at Agriturismo Marciano for 4 nights. We loved it and can't wait for the opportunity to return. My recommendation, besides book ASAP and I hope they still have a room for you, is to eat dinner there at any opportunity. It was the best food we had during our 3 weeks in Italy. It takes no effort to make a reservation. I used a credit card to make the reservation and paid cash for the room, dinners and extra wine we bought as we were leaving.

Throughout the Tuscan countryside, the farms are relatively small in size. Most farms have rooms and apartments as a secondary source of income. Try Marciano, but if they're full there are hundreds and hundreds of great places to stay in the Chianti-Siena area.

Outside of San Gimignano, Certaldo, Poggibonsi and many other hill towns are also very popular.

I looked this Agriturismo on line and its website did not show the rates. Would you mind sharing the price and type of room that you were ab le to book? Thanks

If you are referring to Agriturismo Marciano, you can see the rates on their website. You will need to put in the desired dates and the room you want. The rooms are all different and shown on the website. If the first room you choose is not available for your dates the website will show you what is available.

I booked a room with double bed + a single bed in late June for 110 euros per night. Cancel up to 30 days in advance is free. Hope this is helpful.

Good for you Tony! You will not regret booking with Agriturismo Marciano. We stayed there in '09 & loved every minute of it. My husband & I still talk about the wonderful dinners they served and we long to return! As others have said, take advantage of having dinner there every night it's offered; it's a wonderful experience. The only thing you may regret is not staying there longer than 3 nights! We stayed 4 nights & wish we had stayed 4 weeks! Have a great trip!

Hi Sheron:

Since we will take train from CT to Florence then Siena, we decided to stay at Florence for a couple nights before coming to Siena. Now I am thinking maybe go straight to Marciano. But then need to double back to Florence one or two times. BTW, did you drive to other hill towns while staying at Marciano? Any sites in Siena that are particular interesting? Thanks.

We spent 4 nights at Marciano. That gave us 3 full days to explore. One day we drove to Volterra and San Gimignano. The next day we drove to an abbey, Pienza and Montepuciano. We spent the 3rd day in Siena.
