Agriturismo and in town hotel in Tuscany September 2025

After 5 nights in Florence, we plan rent a car in Florence to visit Central Tuscany/Chianti and then Southern Tuscany. Perhaps 2 days in each region.

I am considering an agriturismo with a restaurant near Siena and a hotel in a town in southern Tuscany while we have the vehicle for the days we are there before we drop the car in Chiusi or Orvieto.

From Tuscany, we then plan to train to Rome for 5 days.

Any thoughts and suggestions?

Would it make sense to drop the car in Orvieto before a visit there?

We like Pienza or Montepulciano

Dropping in Orvieto will limit you to only Hertz (AutoEurope does not work with that particular agency)

Chiusi is easy as well or just keep the car and return in Rome

On further reflection, we enjoy towns, don't require the rural setting or a pool. The peace and quiet for the brief planned visit sacrificed without much regret for this visit.

I am considering eliminating the agriturismo near Siena for a drive to Siena for a 2 night stay, drive on to Montepulciano or Pienza for a 2 night stay.

After this, I am considering keeping the car to visit Orvieto, dropping the car in Orvieto Hertz, taking the fanicular up to town for a 2 night stay then down to the train for the last leg on to Rome by train?

Of course this will require lodging in the two towns that will accommodate us with the vehicle in tow.

I could flip a coin but I think Orvieto may be well worth a visit.
