Any suggestions on an agriturisimo for Umbria or Tuscany?

There are hundreds. Could you narrow it down by your preferences? Budget? Pool? breakfast or self-catering? for how many people?

Moderately priced, not a budget but not top of the line for 2 people. Breakfast & a pool would be nice. I would like it to be convenient to see parts of Tuscany & parts of Umbria.

We stayed in a wonderful agriturismo near Siena; Agriturismo Marciano. They don't have a pool but the farmhouse is very comfortable and homey. The rate includes breakfast around the farmhouse table and they offer optional dinners which are fantastic. Read the reviews on Trip Advisor. The owners are very gracious, friendly and helpful. The experience could not have been better. After we got there and saw how wonderful it was, my husband asked me if what I thought was the nightly rate could have been per person instead of per room because we couldn't get over what a nice experience it was for the rate we were paying! We ate 2 dinners there and they were the best meals of our 2-week trip in Italy. We had a car and made day trips to many places (Volterra, San Gimignano, Montepulciano, Pienza, etc.). The farmhouse is located only 10-15 minutes from walled Siena but it feels like you are out in the country. It was very peaceful and relaxing. Have a wonderful trip.

Any great ones for kids (10, 13, 14). They'd love to see the grapes, help on the farm, ride bikes to town and play in a pool.

We've lived in Italy for almost 3 years and have stayed in lots of agriturismos during that time. I generally find them by going to www.agriturismo.it. Once you've selected English, go to advanced search and plug in your criteria, then after it shows you your results, click on "change your filters" at the top. That gives you more options than you initially had in the advanced search feature. Most importantly, for us at least, it has a "children welcome" criterion. That helps us sort out the places that merely tolerate kids from the places that are actually welcoming.

The properties on Tuscany.net have exceeded my expectations so I would start there. (Of course, always double check with tripadvisor and travel boards after you zero in what you want..)

We just returned from 8 days at Agriturismo Savernano in Tuscany. It was wonderful. It is located in the town of Regello within driving distance of Montalcino, Montepulciano, Siena, Chianti and a 20 minute train ride from Florence. The rooms were big, new and very clean. They have a beautiful pool and breakfast is included. Dinner is also available. The owners are a wonderful couple who make you feel like family the minute you arrive. Unlike other Agriturismos, they are not commercial and accept payment in credit card. Beware that others accept only cash payments for your entire stay.
