Agritourismo recommendations, please

Hi all!
I am trying to put together a birthday trip for my best friend. She missed out on Rome a few years ago due to plane issues, so we’re going to Rome for 5 days. She has always wanted to relax in the countryside or a farm, so I thought, “agritourismo!”.
But the more I look, the more my mind boggles. I was hoping you could provide some suggestions. It would be for three nights in early October. Not too expensive please. As always, thank you!!

I presume you know that Agriturismo means a farmhouse out in the country, often in the middle of nowhere, and therefore a car is needed.

Having said that, it would help to know where in Italy you need an Agriturismo. So far you mentioned that you are going to Rome for 5 days, but you don’t say where you intend to go next for the farm stay.

Podere Cunina is amazing! Silvanna and Piergorgio are the owners. This place is in Tuscany in a small village called Buonconvento. It is very convenient; easy to get to Siena, Montalcino, and really anywhere in Tuscany in not a long time. There are many apartments in the complex at a reasonable cost. Tell them Chris and Toni from California sent you.

I can go anywhere, but I'd rather not spend an entire day getting there. I was thinking Tuscany, but i'm not committed to that.
thank you

Lori,

You'll be going at a lovely time of the year! The crowds will be thinning and it will be a little cooler.

I can personally recommend Castillo di Verrazzano, especially if you and your friend like wine, since this is a winery. It is just outside Greve, which is on the northern part of the famous Chiantigiana (SR222) that winds through the heart of Tuscany.

The winery is at the top of the hill and that is where breakfast is served. The rooms are down the hill, near the entrance to the winery. There's plenty of parking. The rooms are comfortable. The furnishings are eclectic, it's kind of like what you'd find if you spent the night at you aunt's house. There's Wi-Fi and a nice but small common room. Isabella, the housekeeper, lives within the complex and is available to help any time. She did a great job taking care of us.

You can choose to include breakfast, but if you like to get an early start, you might want to make other arrangements. I don't think they start serving until 8:00. If you stay with them, you need to do the winery tour that includes a food and wine tasting. You'll need to set aside three hours for the tour and tasting, but it was fantastic! The food is cooked on a wonderful huge open fire cook space. It will be the only meal you'll need for the day.

If you plan to stay somewhere in Tuscany, you could consider taking the train to Orvieto and renting the car there. It might make getting the car easier. It's about a 2 1/2 hour drive from Orvieto to Greve. There are tons of places to explore from Verrazzano, all within an hour or so drive. You really won't have time, but you can even take the bus from Greve to Florence, which is 45 minutes away.
