Agritourismo near Siena without a car?

Second post related to our 3+ week trip to Italy this coming September.

My wife and I have loved the idea of staying in the Tuscan countryside at an agritourismo but were not planning to rent a car while in country. We'd rather bus or train to travel long distances or have a local guide for some day trips.

Wondering if staying at an agritourismo means we'd be stuck there the whole time or if some offer options for getting into nearby towns or if there's other options we've not thought of. We want to spend a couple of days in Siena and explore some other towns in the area but not sure that is realistic staying at an agritourismo without a car. Not sure if there are some near train or bus stops or how to find that info out?

Yes we could rent a car but trying to find out if anyone knows of places that have options for carless travelers. Or if it's just not a good idea to stay at an agritourismo without a car if we want to get out some days.

Thanks much for any advice or thoughts.

I think one would love to drive the scenic roads and discover the countryside and lovely villages of Tuscany.

But, we almost stayed last time at Frances Lodge - a lovely home on a hill above Siena where one can walk down into town ! Now, you would have to get there - by taxi, maybe - after you arrive by train or bus into Siena. But you could definitely get a taste of the countryside and be right there overlooking Siena.

Just completed 60 days in Italy

Spent a week in a Agritourismo just outside of San Gimignano

Suggest you get a car. public transport in the countryside may not fit your schedule very well especially in the late evening

Taxi may also be hard to get in the countryside

Rent a car and enjoy the Tuscan roads
