We are traveling by train and wonder if anyone had stayed at an Agritourismo near Siena wherein the owners would pick you up. I know this is a lot to ask of the owners but maybe someone out there did do this. We would have been traveling for 20 days up to this point and other than seeing Florence for a day(no Museums) and Siena for a day we could use some downtime before heading home.
Agriturismo Marciano. We just stayed there in October. Good value for very, simple nice rooms. Olive oil and wine farm. Nice views. Nice folks run it. Good breakfasts. Occasional dinners if enough folks. Easy to get into Siena. In the country but very close to the city--about 2 km to town and about 5 km to historic center by bus or taxi. Maybe a 50 minute + walk. Don't know if they will pick you up, but in driving around the town looking for a supermarket, the one i found happened to be next to the train station. i would say a 5 minute, maybe 10 euro, cab ride.
Well regarded place by this website's posters and TA.
Thanks Skip
Will give it a try
I agree with Skip about Agriturismo Marciano. It is one of my favorite places I have ever stayed in. The setting is fantastic, the owners are great, and if they offer one of their optional dinners, don't even think about missing it. Those dinners were one of my highlights and definitely the best food I had in 3 weeks in Italy. We had a car and I have no idea if the owners will provide transportation for you, but you can always email them and ask. Eileen (Texan in CA) will hopefully chime in, because they were there in September and they didn't have a car. Maybe she can explain how they managed.
Shelley, another vote for Agriturismo Marciano. I'm not sure where you'll be coming from but you can easily take a train to Siena and then a taxi to Agriturismo Marciano; it's just 10 minutes from the train station. Even though we had a car, we didn't drive to the walled city of Siena because parking seemed like a hassle so the owners of the agriturismo would call a taxi for us when we wanted to go into town. The agriturismo is wonderful as the others have said and it is very relaxing. Have a great trip.
