Agritourismo in Tuscany or Umbria

Family Getaway
8 adults four kids (10,8,5 and 2(
With the kids want to have a "base camp" where we can all start the day off together and then explore on our own for in small groups. Then have dinner together.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks

First you should all choose the places (towns, etc.) you want to visit, then focus on the area that is logistically more appropriate.

I don't have agriturismo to suggest, but one strategy, once you've focused onto an smaller area (Tuscany and Umbria are very large), is to go to the websites that specialize on that type of accommodations such as:

www.agriturismo.com
www.agriturismo.net
www.agriturismo.it
www.agriturismi.it
www.agriturismitaliani.it

then do a search there, using also their map tools.

Just be aware that many farmhouses are in very secluded areas that can be reached only after long drives through very twisting country roads. Staying in location like those, may be ok if you are looking for just a week of rest and relaxation (maybe at the pool side), but are not ideal if you plan to take day trips to the various towns and villages of Tuscany or Umbria. So before you commit to a location, map that property on Google Maps, then test the driving times to the locations you plan to visit. Some places may look close on a satellite photo, but may be very far in terms of driving time.

PS: You will need multiple cars to stay in the agriturismo.

@ Richard

I assume you will be having cars.

Late September 2018 took this villa in Tuscany for a week. https://www.rentbyowner.com/property/la-villa-di-primo/BC-1419682

7 adults and 5 children. At the time the farm had a small goat herd and there were a few kids in the herd.

From here we day trekked to: Montepulciano, Siena, Florence, Greve, Scarpia and the Mugello Motor Racing circuit. The temps ranged between 22C and 28C. In between we lazed around the pool and BBQ area and had a wonderful time. Had a special trip to the hospital in Montevarchi. Excellent medical attention and latest German MRI equipment. My wife had fallen and cracked 3 ribs. No cost due to the reciprocal medical arrangements between our countries.

The previous week we stayed for a week at a marvellous villa just outside Todi, Umbria. My wife fell in love with the villa and decided to divorce me. It is no longer available through the usual channels.

Ron:

Did your wife really fall or you pushed her down a ravine after she divorced you?

I don't think Italian taxpayers should pay for these family disputes involving couples from Down under.

Touche Roberto

Actually, she was following her normal procedure and not paying attention to her surrounds. Trying to take a saliva inducing photo for the rellies back home. Fell down the stairs at the villa in Cavriglia.

Have the same agreement with 10 other countries.

Great tips and will start my research. We will have 3-4 cars. General plan is to have breakfast together then each family will stay or head out for the day coming back for a family dinner. Thus lunch on our own.

Would like to do a cooking class for the group or this interested

Any additional thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

What I am finding is that the larger the place, the more things to do at the place. This is good and bad in that I kinda wanted my cake and eat it too. Thus wanted a relatively quaint family run place but yet had close access to some of the things we wanted to explore if we choose.

Will keep looking.
