agritourismo in Italy

We would like to stay for a month at a "farm" in Umbria or Tuscany, use it as a home base. Anyone have suggestions?

I'm not if you want a working farm with animals . . . ? :) Anyways we stayed at Agriturismo Savernano about 30-45 minutes south of Florence. It was the most amazing place we have stayed at. They have a working winery with grounds that you can walk around. David the host is amazing. The food . . . I cannot say enough about. The best food we had in all of Italy. Our room was huge with an amazing shower. Think we paid 65 euro per night and that was in April of last year. Easy drive to Siena, Pienza, San Giamagnano and just general wine country. Can't recommend it enough. check out their website.

Hi Maria. We stayed @ Agrit. Maciano in Siena. I feel the same way about it as Angela feels about the one she stayed at. Agrit. Marciano is a working organic winery & olive grove. The place is amazing & the food was the best we had in our entire time in Italy. (They pair their own wines with the meals) We still think back to the wonderful meals we had there & wish we could go back. There are only 6 rooms & the owners are very generous & friendly. They will give you a tour of the winery & will help you every morning formulate your plans for the day & provide maps, suggestions, etc. The rate was very reasonable & we couldn't get over how wonderful the place was. Have a great time at whichever agriturismo you choose. It's a unique experience & well worth it.
